Verbal statement = threat of violence.

Hanging in a tree is a threat, not a “verbal statement”. If you want to defend that kind of talk, fine. I will not.

Verbal statement = threat of violence.

Nope. We covered the legal aspects quite thoroughly in a high-level defensive force class I attended. Summary here

For a statement to be a threat which justifies force in response, there must be clear personal intention on the part of the threatening party to commit violence, AND a credible ability to carry it out, AND your use of defensive violence must be the minimum necessary to keep you safe.

Somebody saying "I'd be happy to see you dead" is not necessarily a threat.

Somebody saying "I'm going to break your neck", with that person being in proximity to you, AND being sufficiently physically strong that he could CARRY OUT that intention, AND it being clear to a "reasonable person" that he meant it, WOULD be a "threat of violence" which could justify defensive violence.

And there you have it! A clear, nonsensical post. You or someone else makes a statement about having kids beat up and probably maimed because they said offensive words about some race but that post isn’t “offensive” or a “threat” but those in the article is offensive and threatening. That makes a whole lot of sense. RME
