Last night, author Trevor Loudon joined Glenn for an in-depth discussion on the growth of the progressive movement. In the interview, Loudon said that he believed Ted Cruz could be the leader America needs to lead it away from progressivism and back towards freedom. To secure his nomination, and eventually the presidency, Loudon suggested an unusual strategy: Cruz should name his cabinet and run as a team.

I proposed the same thing for Romney on April 20, 2012 right here on FreeRepublic:

Mitt & Newt: A Plan to Win This Year, post #19

Check out my cabinet picks back then!

I proposed for each of those cabinet picks to give a news conference outside the building in Washington DC where they would be serving and strike up the debate.

FReegards!

Ted Cruz has a record of running behind Mediocre Mitt in Texas.

Cruz wasn't running against Obama.

You people do understand the the GOPe...will never allow Cruz to win the nomination...

That has the potential of ending the Repubs as a national party.

That’s an amazing cabinet...shame about the top of the ticket, though.

“Nobody touches Ted Cruz on that.”

At one time I though Rubio was the man but he is just too squishy in so many areas.

“I thought Newt should have done that. Its actually a really good idea.”

Newt laid out his plans for the first hours following his inauguration, overriding or cancelling executive orders, firing the czars, etc. I believe this would also be a good strategy but it’s probably still too early.

but I would expect him to govern as a conservative, which is enough to get him my vote.

Good luck with that. You won't change your mind until you've been bent over and screwed...again

I haven't voted for a GOP presidential candidate since 2000. I think Cruz, unlike the previous three candidates, is the real deal - time may tell.

If the eGOP takes out Cruz, THAT will end the Repubs as a national party.

I could vote for Ted with a big smile on my face.

Personally, I won’t even vote for Cruz as long as there’s an R next to his name. Don’t bother with the boring old “you should vote for Hillary” BS. Save it for someone who has a deuce left to give. If you’re still voting GOP, you’re part of the problem.

That's just brilliant. If the "R" doesn't indicate who the heck a McConnell or Boehner is, then why should it define Cruz? I've heard some really strange ideas about why we shouldn't vote for the best person we have, but this one takes the cake - icing and all.

I thought it was smart of Newt to promise to sign away all of Obama’s EO’s on inauguration day.

As far down the bad path as we are these guys running for President need to be saying exactly what they will do to restore the constitutional republic and if they cannot then they should not be elected. I’m sick of voting for guys who don’t have a plan.

Me too, I believe Senator Cruz has a plan and it will be a big part of his campaign, it’s still early.
