OC REGISTER: ANOTHER PRINT MEDIA DINOSAUR BITES THE DUST
Breitbart ^ | March 11, 2015 | ROBERT WILDE

Extra Extra! Just two years after purchasing the Orange County Register promising to resuscitate print media in America, Chief executive and Chairman, Aaron Kushner, and President, Eric Spitz, handed in their resignation at the paper and parent company Freedom Communications Inc.

After a symphony of staff reductions, furloughs, closures of the Los Angeles and Long Beach papers, and at one point actually having the reporters deliver the papers, the decimated company heads to the selling block.

Tuesday reporters assembled at the Orange County Register headquarters in Santa Ana awaiting the announcement. Kushner stood mostly silent, according to several employees who requested to remain anonymous for “fear of losing their jobs,” reported the Los Angeles Times.

The paper is not conservative, its editorial columns were up to a little while back

Wow...this breaks my heart. I was born and raised in Orange County and The Register was my paper...I started reading it in my early teens, and learned to love politics with RC Hoiles’ editorials.

I read it for decades, they had some of the best writing around, and carried great columns. Jack Kilpatrick The Writer’s Art, L.M. Boyd, S.I. Hiyakawa, George Will when he was conservative, and so many others.

Then, I moved to the Bay Area and became a huge fan of The SF Chronicle, they also had great columnists: Herb Caen, Stan Delaplane, Charlie McCabe, Debra Saunders and more.

I miss the good ol’ days of journalism. My current paper, the Oregonian, is but a shell of itself. Sad.

Ed

Tricked by a Pothead

Real title: "Overdose of medical cannabis caramel" - The cameraman says, "I told you to eat half," so where's the 'trick'?

Where Dope Smoking Leads
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4R9eDdq6CE

The gateway claim is pseudoscience - research shows that the correlation between earlier marijuana use and later use of other drugs can be explained by a "common-factor" model, that is, a third factor that causes both results, such as individuals' opportunities and unique propensities to use drugs, or mor broadly a social or psychological predisposition towards anti-social behaviour. (http://www.rand.org/pubs/research_briefs/RB6010/index1.html, http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20110314171826/http://rds.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs2/hors253.pdf)

Also note that the same sort of correlation between earlier marijuana and later harder drugs also exists between earlier alcohol and tobacco and later illegal drugs - so if marijuana is a "gateway" so are alcohol and tobacco. You'd prefer higher health care costs? "A hepatitis C infection can cost [the health care system] anywhere from $200,000 to $1.4 million; that’s a lot of money a 25-cent crack pipe can mitigate" - http://www.foxnews.com/health/2014/02/10/new-crack-pipe-vending-machines-in-vancouver-aim-to-curb-spread-disease/

So Vancouver has a housing (really, a land) bubble - are you saying crack users drove house prices into the millions?

No tourism here - this was about medical marijuana. (http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2010/10/05/Marijuana-user-lights-up-in-parliament/37581286283358/)

Marijuana Induced Psychosis
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkL38IZjfr8

Whole lotta nothin' here ... the guy using that term comments, "Whether that is an accurate description is another story. [...] I had things I needed to deal with and Marijuana found those things inside of me and presented them in a way that forced me to deal with them. Is that bad? I don't think so."

Girl On Pot Brownies

For decades kids have been reporting that they can get pot more easily than cigarettes or beer, because sellers of illegal products never card for age whereas sellers of legal products usually do (in order to protect their legal access to the adult market).
