Detroit fixer uppers are cheap to be sure.

Is the quality of life there worth it? And that is something no amount of money can buy.

And not in Detroit these days and perhaps never.

The closer to downtown the better. However the values of those properties have already gone high enough that the payoff is minimal.

That all depends on whether one was really willing to look at the situation or keep their head firmly implanted in their ass and continue to believe what they want to believe.

Personally, if I had to live in a city, Detroit would be where I would choose based on personal freedom alone. Frankly you won't find a freer city anywhere in the country. I guarantee its a hell of a lot freer than Seattle where this article is from.

Despite the fantasy that some FReeper choose to promote, there are some very nice neighborhoods in Detroit. There is a LOT of big money rolling into Detroit these days in the form of tech firms and their employees (Which might explain the warning from Seattle). Downtown is becoming like a millionares lego set. Texas development firms have been in the city for months going over plans for new high dollar riverfront buildings.

Crime in Detroit is down and falling fast partly because of open/concealed carry, stand your ground laws and a pro gun police chief.

Of the various cities and states I have lived and/or worked in during the last fifty years, Detroit is the one I least want to return to!
