Greece Demands Nazi War Reparations And German Assets Seizures As Creditor Squeeze Continues Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras revives claims for compensation in return for the crimes carried out by the Third Reich

By Mehreen Khan

11 Mar 2015 Greece's prime minister has demanded Germany pay back more than €160bn (£112bn) in Second World War reparations as his country is squeezed by creditors to overhaul its economy in return for vital bail-out funds. In an emotive address to his parliament, Alexis Tsipras said his government had a "duty to history, to the people who fought and to the victims who gave their lives to defeat Nazism." The Leftist government maintains it is owed more than €162bn - nearly half the value of its total public debt - for the destruction wrought during the Nazi occupation of Greece. "The government will work in order to honour fully its obligations. But, at the same time, it will work so that all of the unfulfilled obligations to Greece and the Greek people are met," said Mr Tsipras on Tuesday at a parliamentary debate on the creation of a reparations committee. Syriza's leader added the atrocities of the Nazi occupation remained "fresh in the memory" of Greek people and "must be preserved in the younger generations."

Germany can put all their EU loans to Greece on the other side of the ledger and call it a wash.

I’m sure that the Germans could come up with it...but Greece would be exactly where they are now in five years.

OMG LOL.

I don't care for it happening here, though.

Greece is possibly playing for time, long enough to print drachmas. The prototypes (recent Greek personages from screen fame and elsewhere) are already on the web.

Greece should never have joined the EU in the first place, or allowed to join. They didn’t really meet the financial criteria (if applied honestly).

This is an exercise in pain deferral. And the Commie government of Tsipras (sp?) really doesn’t cut it.

The Greek people obviously have no shame and are now trying to extort monies from the only bulwark economy left in Europe. And yes, they’ll blow it all and end up the same paupers as before. If I were the Germans, I’d say eff off, or, come and get it.

Britain saved Greece near the end of WW@ from the Communists.

The Greeks can sign the German check right over to the Brits.

But, never on a Sunday.

It’s a more legitimate claim than slavery reparations.

They want 112 Billion Pounds? About $160 Billion. OK Sure. Well it is only about 3% of the German GDP.

Germany could give them $1 trillion and they would piss it away in time. Like the U.S. government spending, it is unsustainable.

The Greeks have to get back to work, back to having children and back to the business of doing something besides being Europe's beggars.

This is entirely predictable. Even if Greece and Germany were allies in World War II, the Greeks would still find some reason to demand money from Germany. Because the Greek Welfare State is broke, has run out of its own money, has run out of easily accessible Other People’s Money, and Germany is a big pot of money waiting to be fleeced to continue the Greek transfer payment gravy train going.

When does the US get paid for saving Europe’s a** in two world wars? The answer, of course, is “Never.” To see the enormous American cemeteries in Europe, you know there is not enough money in the world to repay that debt, but a little gratitude would be nice.

I think they should harass Iran for the crimes that Xerxes did to Greece in 480 BC.

Pay up Mullahs.
