Ed Koch once said that if Shitler ran for mayor of NYC all he needed to do was register as a dem and he’d win with 60% of the Jewish vote. Jews, as a demographic have a long history of embracing those who screw us and screwing those who embrace us.
Actually, this isn't remotely true anymore for Jews in NYC. In fact it stopped being true in the 1980s. In 1989, Koch, then the sitting mayor, lost the Democrat nomination to David Dinkins, while 2 other Jewish Democrat (Ravitch and Golden) picked up the tiny remainder. Rudy Giulliani ran for mayor as a Republican, winning the nomination against the Jewish Ronald Lauder, who also ran on the Conservative Party. Lauder's attacks on Giulliani and a nasty whisper campaign against Rudy cost him quite a few Jews so he ended up carrying only 1/3 of Jews, although more than normal voted for the Conservative Party. The Dinkins administration was a disaster in general, but the Crown Heights Riots/Pogrom changed things in NYC. While Manhattan liberal Jews protected Dinkins, it caused a real shift elsewhere. Giulliani and Bloomberg carried the Jewish vote in the next 5 elections, twice against Jewish Democrats, including Mark Green, who had infamously said of the Hasidim attacked at Crown Heights, "They aren't my kind of Jews." In 2013, even as Comrade Wilhem de Blasio (Sandinita, Working Family Party, Democrat) won 73%-24%, he carried the Jewish vote in NYC by less than 2% and lost the Jewish vote in every borough other than Manhattan. Only White Evangelical Protestants and Catholics voted Republican. And Jews in NYC are becoming more Republican. The 11th Congressional district, which gave us Schumer and Weiner voted for a Conservative Republican in 2011 and was destroyed for it. The influx of "Russian Jews" in the 1980s and 1990s along with increases in Orthodox Jews have changed the face of Jews in NYC. This is most dramatically now seen in children, as the typical liberal Jews are not reproducing. A majority of Jewish children under 5 are now Orthodox Jews. Another 25% are children of Russian or Sephardic (Middle Eastern, Bukharin or Iranian) Jews. The Jews, who vote 66-75% Democrat have 1/4 of the children in NYC. Within a generation, Jews will stop being a swing vote and will be a reliably Republican vote in New York city. Unfortunately, Jews in NYC make little difference in any Congressional races other than in the Upper West side, where they are still Democrats, and in Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn, where they vote Republican.

True, the Orthodox Jews tend to be more conservative. I was in the Young Republicans in Rockland in the 80’s, and Pres Reagan had very strong support among the Hasidim. I remember fondly the night before the Election Day 1980 tearing up the streets in my 68 Charger putting up Reagan posters all over the place, the ones we put up along Maple Av in Monsey and rt45 in New Square had his name printed in Hebrew (I should’ve saved a couple of them, gotta be collectables today.) Other than falling for the old “you know, I do have some Jewish ancestry in MY family” routine Hilary pulled while campaigning for the Senate, the days that the dems can take the Jewish vote for granted are coming to an end, though I wonder if they really give a s*** given the way many of them disrespected Bibi.
