If the baby is the brother of the gay son, why does he need to “adopt” it? Since when do brothers need state permission to live together?
Babies need a legal guardian of some type until they are emancipated, to sign school papers and so forth. If his mother assumed that responsibility, he wouldn't "feel" like a "parent."
