Marin has always been one of those picture-perfect areas that can do no wrong.
Until now.
Like many other Yelpers/commuters, we, too, are both puzzled and a little pissed about how much this Sausalito gas station is charging drivers for a tank of gasoline.
We contacted Bridgeway Gas Station a few times to find out what's up with the increased prices, but nobody will pick up the phone over there. So we turned to oil price expert Severin Borenstein who confirms that this certainly is a way to not sell gasoline.
"Obviously, he isn't planning on selling much gasoline and when he does, he sells to people desperate and not paying attention," says Borenstein, director of the University of California Energy Institute. "But this is not a viable strategy for keeping a gas station open."
Usually, when gas stations do jack up prices to surreal amounts, it has more to do with gas stations being at odds with refineries over wholesale pricing. But a Bridgeway isn't a branded gas station, thus it's more than likely getting its gas on the spot market and not paying high prices for it, Borenstein tells us.
That leaves Borenstein equally as baffled by this business strategy. Could it be a way to hose tourists passing through? "Even tourist will skip it at that price. So then why are you in the gasoline business at all? Boresntein says. "Maybe he won't be for long."
Probably not, with 1-star reviews like these:
You can't really take a short position in retail.
In Orlando, there’s a “hoze-em-down” gas station on the west side of Semoran Blvd about 2 miles north of the Orlando Int’l Airort. If you are coming south from downtown in a rental car, it’s the last one you pass before entering the airport property. It’s usually about $3.00 higher per gallon than the surrounding stations.
There was a little gas station up the way that set their digital fuel price sign at 9.99 when they run out of fuel but want to stay open to sell cigs, etc. It was sold last year to an African immigrant who gave up the the liquor license and stopped selling beer. it lasted less than a year...
Liberals, always finding something to complain about that they don’t like..
I prefer to buy analog fuel.
You are assuming the lube job referred to the vehicle?
Well, no, but late model drivers would force "service" station personnel to "name the act" in that case, which they ordinarily are too savvy to do.
Maybe he’s covering Obamacare for his employees, and mandatory 15/hr workers, and not firing any.
So getting my ball joints realigned is out of the question?
Ya know... Since we aren't talkin' about cars ... I really don't know anymore. At one time, "balls'" would have been plural possessive, and "joint" would have been singular in that sentence. But with all the Christine Jorgenson procedures these days there have got to be some very tragic medical mishaps. And no doubt there are places in Kali that'll fix anything for a price.
In which case the service station itself would be a "ball joint."
Modern life is so confusing.
.
Bio fuel from fermenting and distilling whales?
this is free range gasoline. the kobe beef version of gas
And probably the highest population of sociopaths and psychopaths for them to treat. Marin County is just across the Golden Gate from wild and wacky San Franciso’s fruits and nuts.
Property taxes?
Apparently tourists, rich locals, and drivers who are about to run out of gas will pay the high prices. Also, the station plays classical music.
Some years back, I met a guy working in a medical supplies store that was actually a front for a MediCal fraud operation. He made that discovery when he rented out a wheel chair and got chewed out for blowing their cover story. From then on, he understood his job was to turn away business.
That’s a pretty reasonable take there. Of late, I’ve wondered about the loads of general “small businesses” in the ritzier areas of the Bay, there are places open for ages that couldn’t hope to pay the rent, utilities and all the startup fees and continuing license fees and make anything for the owners unless they are tax or laundering fronts...
Or a Nobel Peace Prize, choice is yours.
