According to a tweet from the meeting in St Petersburg, Mr Atambayev said that Mr Putin "just took me for a little drive - he was at the wheel - nearby here, and I can confirm that he's in excellent form".

The Russian TV news channel Rossiya 24 also showed some brief footage of Mr Putin at the meeting, without sound.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov - quoted in a Russian journalist's tweet - said St Petersburg was chosen as a convenient venue for Mr Atambayev, whose daughter is studying there.

Mr Peskov was also quoted as saying the "little drive" mentioned by the Kyrgyz leader lasted about 20 minutes, and Mr Putin "showed what a beautiful place Strelnya is". The leaders were meeting at a tsarist palace in Strelnya, outside St Petersburg.

Today's meeting took place at the Strelnya just outside St. Petersburg - one of the former ornate residences of the Tsars. Before the meeting, President Putin took his guest, Kyrgz President Atambayev for a drive there from St. Petersburg. It was vintage Putin in top form.

Putin disappears for almost two weeks, causing all kinds of speculation about why, and then shows up at a Tsar's Palace. Am I the only one who appreciates his sense of humor?

Yeah I'm a Putinista. The world needs more leaders that stand up for what they believe, and what they believe is their nation and its people.

He is not a friend to the US, so no, I don’t appreciate his “humor.”

Putin is a KGB murderer torturer and you who applaud his antics are incomprehensible.

Our leaders are not friends of the US either.

Still, Putin gets the “Best classic Bond Villain” award.

Mr. Putin has significantly revitalized Russia’s military, his foreign ambitions subjugate nations, he conspires with America’s enemies, and is cooperating with China to defeat American by any means necessary.
He has nuclear weapons pointed at the United States and our allies that if used will incinerate, burn and irradiated Millions.
Putin’s love for his country is a top threat to our military, our people and the free world.
Just wait and see.

Before this Ukrainian coup Islamic extremism was the major threat to our country. Now we’re headed towards another Cold War also.

Presumably the people his regime doesn't kidnap, torture, kill, or otherwise persecute in whatever means they have. You're a real dumb SOB.

Still is. We can thank the KGB/FSB for setting up most of it. There aren't very many KGB/FSB defectors who don't point the finger at Moscow, both in the past and present, for being knee deep in international terrorism, on top of all their other criminal activities. We can also thank the Russkies for Iran's nuclear program too.

The noose NATO is trying to stretch around Russia, largely for Russia’s default on its debt in 1998, is a provocation and is going to cause more than a Cold War, it is going to cause WWIII, the outcome of which will make you want to kill yourself.
