Daily Caller Blogger Quits After Column Critical of Fox News Gets Pulled

Blogger Mickey Kaus quit his job at The Daily Caller today because, as he explains, he wrote a piece critical of Fox News that Tucker Carlson––Daily Caller editor-in-chief and Fox News contributor––ended up pulling.

Kaus explained to Politico that he wrote a column about how Fox News is being negligent in covering the immigration debate. He said, “[They're] filling up the airwaves with reports on ISIS and terrorism, and not fulfilling their responsibility of being the opposition on amnesty and immigration.”

After it was posted, Kaus says Carlson told him, “We can’t trash Fox on the site. I work there.” And this is how the conversation unfolded, he recalls:

“He said it was a rule, and he wouldn’t be able to change that rule. So I told him I quit,” Kaus explained. “I just don’t see how you can put out a publication with that kind of giant no-go area. It’s not like we’re owned by Joe’s Muffler Shop, so we just can’t write about Joe’s Muffler shop.”

Carlson told Politico, “Mickey is a great guy, and one of the few truly independent thinkers anywhere. I’m sorry to see him go.”

A cached version of Kaus’ column is still accessible, and it’s quite a lengthy examination of how Fox has largely overlooked the immigration debate, calling out Megyn Kelly in particular.

For example, he put together a list of the lead stories on The Kelly File since the beginning of the year. Here’s half of it:

1/14 — ISIS

1/15 – ISIS

1/16 – ISIS

1/19 – State of the Union

1/20 –State of the Union/Terror. (Obama veto threat over immigration is mentioned)

1/21 — Iran (Later in the show, Gov. Perry is interviewed and immigration is discussed)

1/22 — Terror (Yemen)

1/23 – Israel

1/26 – Blizzard/Terror

1/27 –Terror/Israel

1/28 — Terror (Later in the show, Sen. Sessions is interviewed and the immigration fight is discussed at some length)

1/29 — Terror/Taliban

1/30 – Terror/Taliban (Immigration later mentioned in passing by a pundit)

2/2 – Terror

2/3 — Terror (ISIS)

2/4 — ISIS (Immigration by Muslims mentioned later in the show by Gov. Jindal)

2/5 — Terror

2/6 – Terror

2/9 – Terror (ISIS) (General Dempsey in passing mentions open borders as a security issue)

2/10 – Brian Williams/Terror

And just like Ann Coulter before him, Kaus is a little irritated that Fox has gone wall-to-wall with ISIS coverage at the expense of substantive immigration coverage:

I would suggest that the near-exclusive obsession with Middle Eastern terror is difficult to justify by the inherent news value of the subject, let alone its value to Fox viewers. You’d think the network would want to take a break if only for variety’s sake… This isn’t what actual coverage designed to alert and inform the opposition to Obama would look like.

Fox doesn’t want immigration to be discussed so they simply spike any coverage of it.

I’m sure the GOP establishment pays them well for this.

Maybe he can get a job counting Chris Christie and Bill Oreilly stories on MSNBC while Hillary Clinton’s private email server was given almost no coverage.

Hooray for Tucker. It’s about time conservatives stuck together. It’s irritating to see the liberal brick wall all stick to the same talking points while conservatives stand in a circular firing squad shooting at each other.

It turns out Tucker is rallying around silencing conservative views on immigration.

That’s not a victory for conservatives.

Fox has fired every conservative voice on immigration except perhaps that one ... drawing a blank on her name now.

They devote no time at all to hearing those who question increasing immigration or argue in favor of enforcing existing laws.

Tucker is for the invasion along with the frauds at Fox.

You have this all wrong. Tucker Carlson is a Chamber of Amnesty GOPe type and the person he fired was tired of so called “conservative” sites such as Fox News being blind to illegal immigration and unconstitutional Amnesty.

So when he had to choose between intellectual honesty and Fox, Tucker Carlson chose Fox. Not good.

I like Mickey Kaus, whatever party he says he belongs to. Wonder where he'll go now.

Totally agree with Kaus.

Its wall to wall middle east crap and almost - almost - nothing about the Constitutional crisis known as Amnesty on Fox.

Soft porn is 30% of every screen page at DC. Maybe disgusting Tucker and the boys could cover that, LITERALLY.

I quit posting there years ago now, for all the porn peddling addiction going on over there and dropped them off my favorites list like a hot potato.

Taking Tucker seriously as some fire breathing conservative is a stretch for me as his moral compass is in the toilet and cancels out his conservative bloviating. Ick.

Mickey is a lunatic.
How could anyone expect a national network like FOX to voluntarily lose money by broadcasting the conservative view on immigration?
It needs to be silenced so their advertisers can buy those ‘Hispanic demographics’ and employ those cheap laborers- freeing up more profits to buy advertising.
Does he think networks are impartial to their profits?

Megyn Kelly mentioned a pro-amnesty poll about 3 times when she was interviewing Mike Lee in 2013 after the Senate passed the amnesty bill.
