Protests against racist policing practices in Ferguson, Missouri and all throughout this country have largely been peaceful. Yet the shooting of two Ferguson police officers last weeka shooting that has not been clearly associated with the protestshas been used to discredit an entire movement, to cast a whole wave of social justice activism as violent and sinister.
A few states away, in Oklahoma, a video showing a white American fraternity chapter singing with reportedly drunken glee about how excluding and enacting violence on black men has laid bare anew a core truth about race in America: being white means never having to say youre sorry.
The actions of the University of Oklahoma Sigma Alpha Epsilon brothers have resulted in the university cutting ties with the fraternity, but for the most part, the focus has been on the men in the video. Not on their fraternity brothers, or on other chapters of the fraternity, or on the gender- and race-exclusive institution of Greek life. For a largely black protest movement, the ripples of damage spread, touching the entire body of the movement. For the white men of SAE, the laws of physics are different, and the ripples dont spread in the same way. The conservative gospel of individual responsibility is, in this case, a luxury that white people enjoy, but that black people are denied.

That statement just supports my assertion that the accusation of “white privilege” is the modern day incarnation of antisemitism.
Prosperity comes from adhering to a set of values.
Those who reject those values point at the prosperous as somehow nefarious and underhanded and stealing from those who are not prosperous.
What they see as “White Privilege” is actually open to everyone that wants to abide by Western values.
Stats show that there is very little “gap” in achievement or prosperity between people of varying “race” that have the same value system.
I see a great deal of validity in your assessment.

I remember back in the 60’s when The New Republic actually had writers with an IQ. This article has no basis in reality.
I'm white and my family did own slaves. But that is STILL not MY fault.
They can still kiss my rebel ass!
"Ah dindu nuffins, yo."
Good. I just wish all whites would get the message. I'm sick and tired of whites apologizing and groveling for every little "wrong" thing nonwhites accuse us of doing or being. Where has that gotten us? It's time we just laughed at them and said, "Get over it."
New Republic is obviously an enemy publication. Not giving them any clicks!
Even before the shooting, I had no respect for those who lived on welfare while whining about the death of a thug who attacked a little guy successfully and then attacked a cop with far less success. I have no respect for the frat boys in the video either, but just as I'm not going to judge black people with jobs and lives based on the losers protesting in Ferguson, I'm not going to judge white college students based on the losers in one frat.
And not one of these white libs would voluntarily give their job or college seat to a person of color in the name of “white priviledge”
Never apologize, mister. It’s a sign of weakness.

Got something right, I sure as heck am not sorry for anything negros might think I should be. Never owned one of them and have no sympathy for all the trouble and divisiveness they cause.
Hey, Chloe...I got yer “white privilege” hangin’ right heah, sweetheart. Heh, heh...heh, heh...
Same here. No apologies coming from me or my family.
I think the Democrat Plantation ought to say sorry.
“I am white and I am not sorry, for anything. I can trace my family back to 1600s and we never owned a slave.”
I can also trace my ancestry back to the 1600’s. There were a few slaveowners in past generations and many more non slaveholders. There were also a few ancestors who were indentured servants. The ancestors who owned slaves did not consult me on the decision to purchase slaves. Their “wealth” was completely wiped out during the Civil War and they became destitute during Reconstruction. As a result they had no wealth to pass to future generations so I did not benefit in any way from slavery. Given I wasn’t directly involved in the owning or trafficking in slaves, and there is no evidence I profited the labor of slaves, I feel no guilt. I also feel no obligation to me by descendants of those who benefited from the indentured servitude of other ancestors.
