Sen. Flake Cosponsors Legislation to Eliminate Corn Ethanol Mandate
Senator Flake ^ | Dec 12 2013

Posted on 03/18/2015 3:39:38 PM PDT by ObamahatesPACoal

United States Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), today joined Sens. Tom Coburn (R-OK), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and seven other cosponsors to introduce The Corn Ethanol Mandate Elimination Act of 2013.

The bill eliminates the corn ethanol mandate within the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), which requires a yearly increase in the amount of renewable fuel that must be blended into the total volume of gasoline refined and consumed in the United States.

The RFS, which was first enacted in 2005 and then expanded in 2007, requires refiners and blenders to use 16.55 billion gallons of renewable fuel in 2013.

"In 2005, Congress bought into the corn ethanol mandate for billions of dollars, and taxpayers have been stuck with a lemon ever since,” said Flake.

Jeff Flake would rather spend 6 Trillion on amnesty for illegals than give 100 Billion to a few corn farmers.

Both are not ideal but stopping the amnesty is a priority.

The cosponsors are all liberals and RINOs who want an easy vote. Risch is the only conservative.

"The bill is also cosponsored by Sens. Richard Burr (R-NC), Susan Collins (R-ME), Bob Corker, (R-TN), Kay Hagan (D-NC), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Jim Risch (R-ID) and Patrick Toomey (R-PA)."

Yes, but both are wrong. Alcohol made from corn does not belong in fuel for numerous reasons most freepers know. And we should not be spending any money on illegals. Flake is a flake, turned into one in no time.

Watch out it’s not a fake bill in the sense that I’m not sure there is a CORN ethanol mandate. If ANY ethanol mandate remains, it will be even more expensive without corn.

Normally when the liberals and the RINOS co-sponsor a bill it is BOHICA time. In this case, they don’t see the corn farmers in flyover country as being worth subsidizing. I agree it is absurd and wasteful to subsidize “food” that will be consumed by your car. I hope for once they give us a break and remove the subsidy and they don’t then try to add something harmful in its place. I don’t trust them.

I do think it’s better to get rid of as many mandates as possible, unless there’s other hidden items in the bill

WHAT??? The ethanol mandate is partially responsible for tens of millions of illegal invaders in our country because they can't farm corn in their own country.

You're right about the priority being illegal invaders, but continuing the ethanol mandate will only encourage millions more illegals to invade our cities, towns, and neighborhoods.

Kill the ethanol mandate, and you will stop hurting jobs in the long run, according to Governor Walker in 2006.

(But I guess it's all right to hurt jobs in the long run in 2015, huh, Governor Walker?)

Ask any lawnmower repair shop tech, Ethanol in gasoline ruins small engine carburetors. Using corn for ethanol production has pushed the corn price way up, thus the price of meat is now so high that it is unaffordable for many if not most. As well, it requires more BTU to produce one unit of ethanol than the BTU that unit of ethanol supplies. This is a lose lose for everybody, even the corn farmers because we all have to eat and buy gas.

Corn needs to be produced for food. Its about the least efficient way to produce ethanol.

1 acre of Sorghum will produce about 800 gallons of ethanol where 1 acre of corn will produce around 441 gallons and you have to add a lot more nitrogen to corn crops than sweet sorghum.

Grain sorghum (milo) is about identical to corn for ethanol production.

Do this right after all subsidies for “green” power goes away. In the scheme of things there is more waste there than in ethanol.

I think I just gave you the stats for corn vs. sweet sorghum. I didn’t make it up. Sweet sorghum is almost twice the production per acre over corn.

Sugar beets are better than corn. Anything with a natural sugar in it is going to beat corn.

Corn is about the least efficient way in the world to produce ethanol. Using all this corn to make ethanol is what is driving up the price of corn based foods at the store.

A broken clock is correct twice a day.

Grain should not be used like fossil fuels and the government should not be picking winners and losers in the energy sector.

Corn prices are at or below cost of production. How much cheaper could it get?

Ethanol is made from sugars. There is no mandate that those sugars come from corn of which I am aware.
