If only 1 in 4 Polish adults are willing to actively resist an invasion of their own country...why on earth should Americans (or anyone else) fight and die there defending them?

If only 1 in 4 Polish adults are willing to actively resist an invasion of their own country...why on earth should Americans (or anyone else) fight and die there defending them?

We've already established that "1 out of 4" represents around 5 million people at a minimum, of which only 200 to 500,000 would represent a significant army and resistance. Though, in reality, we might expect about 15 million people capable of able-bodied resistance, and that would probably be likely, as once a country is invaded, patriotism skyrockets (just ask Ukraine). On top of this, considering Poland's professional army, its nearly one thousand in tanks, and a large amount of advanced weaponry and technology, it is very unlikely that your Russian masters will have an easy time. In fact, they might even need to airdrop you in, use you as a human shield.

As for "why should we fight and die" for Poland? Well, if you can't answer that question, you're obviously a subhuman and traitor to all that is American.

“if Russia moves on Poland, it will be World War III ...”

Would the US would honor its treaties?

If it happens with Obama still being in office, that’s very questionable ... but with any other President, besides Obama, the answer would be yes ... :-) ...

“World War 2, it was immediately obvious for over a decade prior to the US’ entry into the war.”

For those who were not blind to the truth. The reality was that our military still had horses, wagons and biplanes.

Probably find 1 in 4 in this country.

Of course we’d find you in other 75%.

Isn’t Poland in NATO yet?!

That is a very good point!

If Russia invades Poland, it will be a defining moment for NATO. (As George Will has pointed out--correctly, I think--if this happens, and if NATO does not respond aggressively, it will mark the effective end of this alliance; which is probably what Vladimir Putin is angling for.)

Not surprising. That’s why they’re called the “other France”.

Generally speaking, I did not care for Richard Nixon; and that, without any regard to the Watergate imbroglio.

There was, however, one redeeming quality for the man, I believe: He inspired a sense of fear in America's enemies.

It is my understanding that he allowed the Soviet leadership to believe that he was just a bit unhinged--that he might wake up one morning, and decide that it would be great fun to nuke Moscow!--so the Soviets were (understandably) wary of him.

Somehow, President Obama does not seem to inspire that sort of fear among our enemies. (In fact, he really seems much more like Neville Chamberlain than he seems like Richard Nixon, in this regard.)

If they weren’t in NATO, Poland couldn’t invoke Article 5 of the NATO Charter.

NATO would likely collapse with ‘leaders’ like Obama involved

Even your link says there were also 37 who said they would resist as not part of the army. Only 5% said they would submit to the invader.

Poland switched to professional military rather long ago and have totally eliminated conscription army since 2009. There are still things people can do even if they don’t know how to load a howitzer. I am pretty sure this is what the 37% meant.

As for the 5% who said they submit to the invader - there is such 5% in every country.

God bless the Poles. I hope they are ready and not trying to use Hussars like in WW-2

I wonder if more than one in four Americans would actively resist a foreign invasion.

A recent poll indicated that only 27% of the adult population in Poland would fight for their country if it were invaded...which helps explain why the Polish military is busy recruiting children into their ranks.

And Putin posted on his Facebook page that 25% of those are Nazis, and the rest either Blackwater or Jews. RT picked-up the story . . . Alex Jones will be reporting it shortly.

Peter the Great tried to take Poland and many parts of Sweden to, he succeeded in some ways and lost in other ways. The problem is Putin wants the buffer states of eastern Europe again. He wants to be able to go all the way to the Middle East too. This has been the goal of Russia since Peter the Great. To know Russia is to know Russian history.

Would the US would honor its treaties?

Which treaties would those be?

Was Poland or any other Eastern European country's membership in NATO ratified by a vote in Congress?

Do unelected foreign powers get to decide whether and/or when the United States go to war?
