PHOENIX, Ariz. – Fifth grader Aaron Bencomo brought the Arizona Senate Education Committee to tears as he testified in support of HB2190, a bill to end Common Core in the Grand Canyon state.

With his mom Kristi sitting to his left beaming with pride, Aaron decimates the “one size fits all” Common Core standards detailing how they are destroying his love of leaning as they ignore kids’ unique learning needs for the sake of conformity.

I dare you not to tear up as Aaron cites from the Declaration of Independence to support his desire for the adults in the room to stand up against tyranny and fight in his defense when he closes by saying, “It is your right to alter or abolish Common Core as I cannot.”

He took the test and the Gov sent the parents a correspondence saying their child had surpassed maximum intelligence standards and asked what they would like done with the remains.

I read that short story (Examination Day by Henry Slesar) back in the 1970s from some sci-fi type magazine I subscribed to. It was a collection of short stories and news of the weird, but I cannot recall the name of the magazine (Examination Day was originally published in Playboy in 1958 - but that's not where I read it - Dad's collection didn't go that far back ;p.

I went on to listen to the entire video and according to what I heard from various officials at the meeting, Arizona is NOT locked into common core methods, but has the freedom to use whatever they want to use. Unfortunately, the video quit at the point where the impact on the state by the federal government in terms of funding, was addressed.

The impact of Federal funding is very crucial to the entire picture that the states have to address, because the federal hand on the state’s dollar can, for all intents and purposes, amount to blackmail/coersion...no matter what name you attach to it. Federal control limits the decisions the states make when really it shouldn’t. The Fed obtains it’s money through the states and therein lies the power of the people and the state.

I would like to have heard more, but the video only went so far.

The young man may have been indoctrinated, I don’t know, but the kid was in tears when he described how this school year was a total waste for him. He was bored to tears. When asked questions however, he was able to address those questions from his own mind and heart, which were consistent with his speech. It’s difficult for indoctrination to produce that kind of result.

Educators in general seem to love common core. I have a family member who is a math teacher and she loves common core. I haven’t had a chance to talk to her very much about it at all, because she works such very long hours, and has children of her own, we live hundreds of miles apart. I hope however to be able to do exactly that come April! I’d like to hear more from her.

I am not a public education supporter in general, but I AM an education supporter. Education is very important in the lives of all living humans, but it doesn’t need to be limited or contained in just one vector...via the state.

Anyway, thanks for the link. I enjoyed it. This is a smart kid. Has all of his education experience been confined to the state institutions, or has he been home schooled along the way?

The estimate is only 22.5% off, but that seems reasonable. /s
