The US House of Representatives has overwhelmingly approved a resolution urging president Barack Obama to send weapons to Ukraine, to bolster Kyiv’s fight against separatist rebels in the country’s east.

The resolution was approved by 348 votes to 48.

The vote ups the pressure on Obama, who has been facing criticism for being slow to take action.

How long will it be until some Islamic whackjobs get their hands on more US weapons to turn on us?

We were party to the Budapest Memorandum in return for
Ukraine agreeing to give up nuclear weapons. At one time Ukraine had about 2,000 nuclear warheads.

So far we’ve welched on the deal.

Euronews. Ukraine wanted to become part of the EU. Let the Euroweenies take care of this issue. We got our own problems to deal with.

Agree. The armies of David Cameron and Francois Hollande can spill their blood for this. What we need out military to do is start taking on the enemy of america, liberals.

We can fight Russia or we can fight ISIS / Islam. We do not have the resources to do both.
And Russia will leave us alone if we leave them alone, whereas Islamic expansionists won’t.
Don’t arm Ukraine. Arm the Kurds, back those fighting ISIS.

Can you imagine if Russia’s parliament voted to send arms to those hispanics who claim that the Southeast US is legally theirs and need help fighting to take it back?

No need to imagine. They just tell Obama and he will tell Holder.

Not like it hasn’t happened before.

>>>Why? Where’s our dog in this fight?

Our dog in this fight is the agreement we made with the Ukraine as a nation.

If our word means nothing and we don't want people to trust us....then we shouldn't send arms. If the promise of the USA means something...then we need to honor the agreement we made. Period. Bad deal...good deal...no deal. A country with honor honors its treaties.

As a man my word is my bond...and I would hope its the same for the US.

Bill Clinton's signature on the Budapest Memorandum was a cynical ploy, because Clinton knew that the United States could never be bound by such a non-treaty "agreement." President Clinton never submitted the Budapest Memorandum to the Senate for its approval, therefore it has no force under our Constitution.

No president has the authority to bind the United States of America to any international agreement that is not ratified as a treaty by a two thirds vote of the United States Senate. This is one of the basic Constitutional checks and balances (between our three co-equal branches of government) known as "Advise and Consent." We are governed at all times by our Constitution -- not just when it is convenient.

Good question...given the United States lousy track record of having our weapons wind up in the wrong hands (Iraq, Libya,Yemen, etc.) you’d think the Congress would think twice about passing such a resolution.

The government in Kiev is based on a coup that only happened in that city. The eastern regions of Ukraine want nothing to do with it.
