There are American companies laying off STEM workers, replacing them with H1B workers and forcing the laid off citizens to train their lower wage replacements or be denied severance. H1B is not, like amnesty, a bright red line but neither is it something that I support or will rationalize.

I also heard someone being interviewed who was knowledgable about this who said the severence agreements usually include a "non-disparagement" clause that prohibits those being replaced by H1Bs from speaking publically about what was done.
