Meredith Shiner is currently a Yahoo News political reporter. Before spending three years at Roll Call, where she was considered "a leader in the newsroom," she toiled at the Politico for two years. Shiner is a graduate of Duke University, and "grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago."
I have provided these resume-level details to emphasize how utterly incomprehensible it is, as well as downright scary, that a woman with this kind of background and experience could have published, reacting to Ted Cruz's speech announcing his presidential candidacy, the following tweet (HT Instapundit):
So Meredith Shiner:
Is a journalist who has worked at two of the leading DC-based online establishment press entities.
Graduated from an elite university's school of journalism.
Appears to have grown up in relatively privileged socioeconomic and educational circumstances. Despite all of this, clearly has no idea that our country's Founders, in one of the most important intellectual and political breakthroughs in human history, asserted in the Declaration of Independece that our rights, including but not limited to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, come from God not kings, not tyrants, and not governments.

Millenials ...
The problem is that if the source of rights is not God, then all talk of “rights” is reduced to mere opinion, i.e., there are really not any rights, only force of law, backed up by guns. That is the REAL position of modern progressivism; anything else is just for show.
“Bizarre” even though that is the foundation of our formation as a country - she doesn’t even know that basic, basic thing. She also doesn’t know what a “right” is - and that the Constitution did not create these rights, but protected them by specifically limiting what the government and those who hold office can and cannot do. Basic, basic stuff that is the foundation of our entire system of government - she does not know or understand. Yet, she has all of that education and experience - and has knows not even the most basic things. Sad.
I'll take 'what do you get in a Cracker Jacks box?' for $500, Alex.

I agree that the Constitution was man made. But it points out that our rights are God given.
