United States Marine Corp Reserve

Maybe some one here can answer this question. My Uncle was in the 5th Marine division. Was that considered part of the reserve or once wounded, marines were automatically transferred from active duty to reserve?

Most of the servicemen in the war were classed as reservists. Only the pre-war regulars were not reservists.

Reserve does not mean that they were not on active duty. The Navy consisted of the Regular Navy and Navy Reserve. I assume that the Marines had the same. The Army consisted of Regular Army, National Guard, and Army Reserve. More than 95% of the men in WWII were classified as Reserves.
