Some of her hair styles have very straight hair. It is not uncommon for black women who like those styles to wear wigs. I’d guess that is the case with FLOTUS.

I am not black so I can’t speak with authority on this subject BUT I think black women have hair loss issues due to weaves, corn rows, massive amount of straightener products, etc. Black women are tough on their scalp.
Saw this a good while back (Jan. 2013) and it was a surprise to me because I thought (& still think) Mooch wears wigs. The Jeopardy pic definitely does not show a “thick, shoulder-length mane”.

A “look at me, look at me” moment. She’s an attention hound. Of course, the media will go gaga over this “chic” new look. After all, she is a fashion icon.
Me? I’m glad that the “make-up” crew pulled her hair back so it would not show in the food. They could have also given her a hair-net just to complete the visual.
She must wear wigs to get those fancy hairdos, like so many nappy black ladies do.
It seems she's going for the new Vin Diesel look that's so popular these days.
