Gee... you like to think that pilots would notice if the auto pilot flew the stupid thing into the ground?

I thought perhaps it may have been slow enough to not be noticeable until it was too late. I do admit that I am ignorant on this topic and was merely putting in my two cents worth of speculation.

Even better would be for them to notice BEFORE it flew into the ground.

Gee... you like to think that pilots would notice if the auto pilot flew the stupid thing into the ground? If the autopilot is flying the thing into the ground on a smooth, uneventful path, AND the software is reporting level flight at constant altitude to the pilots, what would clue in the pilots that something is wrong?
