Walker’s “Think Locally, Act Globally” Standard of Foreign Policy Experience [Kilgore Slams Palin]
Washington Monthly ^ | March 26, 2015 | Ed Kilgore

Posted on 03/26/2015 11:15:00 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Conservative gabber Hugh Hewitt interviewed Scott Walker on foreign policy issues yesterday, and the ensuing headlines involved Walker’s commitment to nullify any U.S.-Iran nuclear deal “on day one” if he is elected.

But a different item caught my attention: the Wisconsin governor seems to be side-swiping his Republican rivals in his rather unorthodox claim that only someone with executive experience can be trusted to know his ass from page eight on foreign policy and national security issues. Speaking of Obama, he said:

[T]he unfortunate reality is this is what happens when you put someone in office who’s never led before. He’s not listening. When you’re a governor, you’re a mayor, you’re a county executive wherever you’re at, and when you have a cabinet and you have to act on behalf of not just the people who elected you, but the whole group, the whole constituency as we talked about a little bit at lunch. You’ve got to lead, and you’ve got to listen to people who hopefully are smart or smarter than you are on any given topic. You ultimately have to make the decision. This president, unfortunately, having been a senator, a state senate, and community organizer, never led anything. And so he’s never been in a position to make those sorts of judgments.

So presumably his 2016 rivals Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, and yes, foreign policy maven Lindsey Graham, are all to be disqualified on national security grounds. And by Walker’s standard, any random county executive or small-town mayor is likely to have better “judgment” on international issues than 2008 Republican presidential nominee and current Senate Armed Services Committee chairman John McCain.

Fortunately for Senate Republicans, they can also rely on Foreign Relations Committee chairman Bob Corker, who gained his critical experience as mayor of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Walker needs to be mocked about this often. It’s fine if he wants to make the case that people like him with zippo foreign policy experience could still serve effectively as Commander-in-Chief. But trying to argue he is uniquely qualified is just stupid.

UPDATE: Here’s an even better point than the one I made about Walker’s weird standard for foreign policy and national security qualifications:

Tweets:

Ed Kilgore @ed_kilgore - Walker's dumb claim exec experience key to forpol/natsec ability makes random county exec more qualified than McCain. http://goo.gl/UA2tjZ

Hesiod Theogeny @Hesiod2k11 - @ed_kilgore - More specifically, it makes Sarah Palin more qualified than John McCain. 12:32 PM - 26 Mar 2015

Well I don’t know how conservative it is but apparently Scott wants to lead us to amnesty from his reported remarks at a recent private GOP dinner.

Walker is basically right, it’s a criticism of Obama that is right on
//////////////////////////////////////////////////

I missed it. Is Obama running again?

Walker was clearly taking a shot at Cruz, getting the cannibalism off to an early start.

Juvenile crap like that isn’t going to win him any votes.

I see you get your information from the Jeb Bush campaign.

My mistake. I thought I was chatting with a conservative.

Obama ran against Bush and it seemed to work fairly well.

[Article, quoting smartass tweets]

Actually, the tweet is actually correct. Palin is objectively more "qualified" than McCain by her character and by her feel for the American People, rather than her familiarity with PRC poohbahs, like McCain.

Somewhere, Karl Rove is smiling.

It bothers me when conservatives' campaigns begin to show signs of the Hand of Rove, as when Michele Bachmann's newly signed-on campaign manager Ed Rollins suddenly dumped all over another conservative GOPster. That is Karl Rove's kind of stuff.

Smells like turd blossoms in here, not a good sign for Walker.

...............................................

And Walker taking shots at Cruz thru Obama helps us how?

You must be quite conflicted, judging by your tagline. You want Cruz as vice president yet Walker doesn't think Cruz is qualified.

I bet the dems are happy though. They're writing the debate questions now:

Governor Walker, by your past statements you've clearly disqualified most of your opponents, given that they are Senators...except for...wait for it...wait for it...Governor Bush...

LOL! Ed Kilgore is your typical Progressive hack hypocrite, and charter member of NAMBOLA (North American Media-Barack Obama Love Association).

I'd never heard of the putz, so I went and checked his little "Thievington, District of Corruption insider blog".

This week, ol' Ed The Hypocrite is wringing his hands about an "abuse of taxpayers’ dollars" by Senator Tom Cotton and his letter to Iran.

Bring up Sunni prince Obama's "abuse of taxpayers’ dollars" with his golf and other junkets, and Ed is on Obama's posterior like a Hoover vacuum cleaner, making sure nothing sticks to the rump of the Love of his professional life.

I'm sure criticism of Obama's $300 bottles of wine and $90 a pound Wagyu steaks is nothing but a "dog whistle" to ol' Ed The Hypocrite...

I'd never heard of the buffoon hypocrite Kilgore.

He's just got his Progressive panties in a twist because Palin WON'T GO AWAY, and she's more popular, much more well-known, and makes a lot more money than little Eddie does.

And she's got the influence of a battleship on politics, whereas Ed's got his little "Political Animal" rowboat...
