NCAA expresses concern over Indiana 'religious freedom' law

On the eve of next week's Final Four in Indianapolis, the NCAA expressed concern about a new Indiana law that will allow businesses to turn away gay and lesbian customers based on “religious freedom” and suggested future NCAA championships in the state could be impacted.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence on Thursday signed into law a measure that has created uproar in the state where the NCAA is located. Some conventions are threatening to pull out of Indianapolis. Greg Ballard, the Republican mayor of Indianapolis, broke with the Republican governor on the bill and said it would put the city's economy at risk.

“The NCAA national office and our members are deeply committed to providing an inclusive environment for all our events,” NCAA president Mark Emmert said in a statement Thursday after the bill was signed. “We are especially concerned about how this legislation could affect our student-athletes and employees.

Since 2001, the NCAA has banned the state of South Carolina from hosting NCAA championships because the Confederate flag is flown on the statehouse grounds.

“If it’s that simple, Pence needs to get out in front of this. With the exception of a couple locals I’ve seen stating that fact, I’ll I am hearing is shaming and outrage.”

Pence can say whatever he wants to, but do you SERIOUSLY think the gay-run Indianapolis TV stations are going to repeat it???

I don’t think we need the Indy TV networks to air it. The problem is there is NO alternative response being provided anywhere that I see. I am out of state but have close ties in Indiana. I am seeing lefties run crazy from there and around the country. I like Pence a lot, and would love to see a digestible response showing this is a whole to of noise about nothing.

For the government to force somebody to enter into a contract, otherwise they’ll punish you for not, is nothing but tyranny.

It's also involuntary servitude, illegal under the 13th Amendment.

"Asking for a wedding cake is ask somebody to enter into a contract, it isn’t the same as having some cakes on display and refusing to sell them to somebody because they’re gay..."

Besides it's not like there's a shortage of gay bakers. Can't fool me, I've seen those cake decorating shows on TV...
