A senior House Democrat has once again issued an apocalyptic warning that climate change will hit women harder than men, and that it could drive millions of poor women to engage in “transactional sex” in order to provide food and water for their families.
Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) proposed a resolution on Wednesday that said as the climate changes, it will cause food and water scarcity around the world. That will create pressures on poor women in particular, since they are often charged with growing food and collecting water for their families.
As resources dwindle, it could force many women to barter sexual favors for food and water, the resolution stated.
“[F]ood insecure women with limited socioeconomic resources may be vulnerable to situations such as sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy, and poor reproductive health,” it read.
The resolution concluded by saying Congress must recognize the “disparate impacts of climate change on women,” and must encourage the use of “gender-sensitive frameworks in developing policies to address climate change.”
Lee introduced a similar resolution in the last Congress, but it didn’t go anywhere. Lee said in 2013 that her resolution is meant to remind policymakers that more women need to be included in discussions about how to respond to the changing climate.
So dinner and a movie is now a bad thing? ;>)
Liberal women: they will try anything to get laid. Of course, if things work out and they get knocked up, it’s profit-making venture for them— the government will either provide multiple handouts or a court will order child support. More specifically, the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for intrastate climate purposes. This is evidenced not only by the Constitution’s silence about global warming, but also by the following Supreme Court clarification of Congress’s limited power to lay taxes.
“Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States.” —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
And to prevent Congress from laying unconstitutional taxes, taxes which cannot be justified under Congress’s constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers, the Founding States had done the following. The Founders had not only established the Federal Senate, but had given the power to elect senators uniquely to state lawmakers. This was so that federal senators could protect their states by killing House appropriations bills (1.7.1) which Congress cannot justify under its Section 8 limited powers, global warming issues for example, such bills not only stealing state powers, but also state revenues associated with those powers.
But as a consequence of the 17A, low information citizens go home after using their 17A power to vote for their federal senators and watch football, oblivious that the federal senators that they elected are doing the following. Their senators are working in cahoots with the corrupt House to rob citizens wallets by appropriating taxes that Congress cannot justify under its Section 8-limited powers, taxing and spending for global warming purposes being one glaring example.
So if Rep. Barbara Lee is really concerned about appropriating taxes in the name of scientifically unproven claims of global warming, then here is how she must establish the federal government’s power to regulate intrastate climate issues within the framework of the Constitution that she has sworn to protect and defend.
Rep. Barbara Lee must lead Congress to propose a climate change amendment to the Constitution to the states. And if the states choose to ratify Rep. Lee’s amendment then the feds will have the constitutional authority to tax and spend for climate change purposes and Rep. Lee will be a hero.
Getting back to 17A, and with all due respect to Constitution-respecting justices, also consider that if that amendment had never been ratified that there would probably be all different faces on the Supreme Court at this time.
The 17th Amendment needs to disappear.
