Thanks. That’s all very well thought out (and therefore, just like my scenario, likely won’t make sense to someone who hasn’t seen both sides of the forensics). It’s a prime example of why juries should never jump to conclusions - because often the simplest answer is wrong. We’ll never know what happened but if a society convicts without solid proof then everyone can be at risk. That’s why the presumption of innocence is so vital to keep its citizenry safe.

In terms of evidence, to me the biggest factor that can’t be ignored is that if either one had committed the stabbing, the evidence would have been iron clad (there was a lot more on Guede - which is why his story was different and really doesn’t add up - i.e. he “helped” but didn’t call anyone and fled). But none of the scenarios are impossible.

I agree that “innocent until proven guilty” should be the standard. But the evidence against these two was pretty solid, as far as evidence goes.

I came across another possible explanation for why Guede didn’t flush: Assuming he did break in, maybe Kercher came home just then, and he didn’t want to make a sound and alert her that he was there. OTOH, he could say that everything was consensual (which, for the record, I don’t believe) and that, when he discovered the crime, he panicked and figured he’d be blamed for it. Thank goodness he didn’t have the PR machine the other two had, or he might not have even been given the 16-year sentence.

Whatever the case, nothing explains why Sollecito’s DNA is on the bra clasp (the notion of contamination doesn’t make sense), and Sollecito and/or Knox must’ve closed and locked the victim’s bedroom door (there’s no other explanation based on the evidence). Plus there’s all the other evidence against them. People have been convicted in the U.S. on far less.

This story gives me nightmares. So, maybe I should stop reading about it. It’s over now, anyway. Thanks for the conversation. My heart goes to the Kerchers.
