A celebrated sea otter who survived a natural oil slick and was tracked by researchers for six years has been killed by a shark.

The seven-year-old marine mammal named Olive was found dead by a beachgoer on March 22 near Sunset State Beach in California.

Wildlife biologists retrieved a large, serrated tooth fragment from white shark in a wound on the mother-of-three's body, indicating the cause of death.

Hang on there a minute NM Tijeras_Slim. Dontcha think that nannie bloomers and the moms demand (?) need to start some sort of group to put an end to “SHARK VIOLENCE”? Blood is running in the streets, er, well oceans from these vicious assault sharks running rampant and with no regard for anything or anybody. :>}

a natural oil slick

Hmmmm, a NATURAL oil slick. Natural. Go figure. Maybe this happened because we are not allowed to drill certain places and the pressure built up enough that it had to release. This is actually the first time I have ever seen that phrase. Guess it didn't make that big of news.

Now the other part, otters aren't that big, did the shark just kill for the sake of killing it? Don't the animal rights nuts tell us that animals just don't do that? That they only kill for food (when they can't get tofu) or when threatened?

Wow, this story could really devastate the eco-nuts mantra.

There you are, catching a few rays while laying on top of some kelp, cracking open clams with your best rock....and Jaws bites you. Sounds like my time in California.

on the mother-of-three's body

I'm not used to seeing that kind of description for an animal.
