My interest isn’t in whether he was beaten up. That’s obvious.

Whodunnit is more interesting. After all, Harry Reid is a well connected and powerful guy in the US government. He can bring a lot of power to bear on his behalf. If he needed some sort of governmental protection, I bet he could get it, especially after all he’s done to further Obama’s agenda and obstruct anything the GOP tried.

So, who is powerful enough to beat him up, get away with it without any questions being asked, and scare him into retirement? It seems like the local state mob wouldn’t be enough. Any ideas?

A local mob with the goods on Harry for decades of felonies would have enough power to beat him up and keep him quiet about it. It definitely wasn't Obama or the DOJ. If they wanted Harry, they'd just prosecute him for his obvious corruption, like they suddenly decided to do with Menendez.
