U.S. defense chief sees military recruitment challenges ahead

The U.S. military faces a challenge recruiting people with the high-tech skills it needs for the future as those who joined after the Sep. 11, 2001 attacks leave the service and the U.S. economy creates more jobs, Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Monday.

Carter, in a speech at his former high school, said the military has to attract about 250,000 people a year just to keep up with those who retire or leave the service to pursue jobs, education and other opportunities in the civilian world.

At the same time, only about a third of the 21 million Americans age 17 to 21 are eligible to join the military, with half unable to pass the entry examination and the rest ineligible because they are unable to meet the physical fitness or character standards, he said.

Thank you. He’s confided in me that some of his buddies have died in Afghanistan because the ROE’s set down by Obama.

You all need to think about the ramifications of your advice.

I have been in since 86, and my corpsman son is on his second hitch. There are more of us than you all seem to think, and I get sick of “conservatives” bad mouthing all of us who still serve. Yes, it sucks, but there are many of us trying to maintain the spirit of service that has made this country great.

Do you really want the military to have no conservative members?

You are exactly right. And right now our military is being used more and more to protect and push the New World Order/Special Interests agenda.

This is a true story but I will not reveal how I know it on a public forum.

A retired Army contractor that teaches counter terrorism was in a foreign country on some sort of excursion with active duty soldiers. There was an accident and one of the soldiers was badly hurt. It was not due to any enemy engagement but an accident involving a transport vehicle. As this young soldier lie there in pain close to death the CO would not call in a helicopter to evacuate him. He told the contractor he was not going to answer for the cost of such an operation. The contractor was horrified. The CO would not relent on his position. This contractor was a highly decorated former high ranking officer, very high. He made contact with another and pulled some strings to get this soldier the urgent help he needed. I am keeping these details vague purposely.
This soldier would have suffered long term problems if not death had the contractor not stepped in.

My son is 17 an has dreamed of becoming a Marine for many many years. I did not serve due to a eye injury I received in my youth but I would have if I could have.

This contractor told me in no uncertain terms he would not recommend my son joining after the incident I mentioned above. He said he never dream the day would come when he would see such a thing with his own eyes.

My son will most likely wait until after the next presidential election to decide to sign up or forget it. He is really struggling with this. He asked me yesterday if there was any way to know how the election would turn out

It seems as though laplata thinks disrespect to civil authority would make him a military hero.

I would wager the only uniform he's ever worn had a golden arch on it.

I think that it’s time for America to create it’s own Foreign Legion.
