Official: Iran nuke talks to continue in new phase (No deal reached)

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Wrapping up six days of marathon nuclear talks with mixed results, Iran and six world powers prepared Tuesday to issue a general statement agreeing to continue negotiations in a new phase aimed at reaching a comprehensive accord by the end of June, officials told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The joint statement is to be accompanied by additional documents that outline more detailed understandings, allowing the sides to claim enough progress has been made thus far to merit a new round, the officials said.

One of the officials said the statement was general in part because differences between the sides remained ahead of a new phase of negotiations toward a comprehensive deal by late June. The second official said other documents will be more technical in nature and will also be made public later in the day.

Both demanded anonymity because they are not authorized to comment on the talks.

The documents were being finalized among the six countries negotiating with Iran, and the Iranian side had not yet signed off on them, said the first official.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who left Lausanne Monday, was heading back to the Swiss city, also indicating that an end to the talks was near. He departed on Monday but said he would return if a deal was imminent.

Hasn’t Kerry done enough groveling? Any phony ‘deal’ must have so many loopholes advantageous to the mullahs with nothing to America or the world’s advantage that there shouldn’t be a ‘deal’ at all.

Thanks to Bush I, Bush II and King Obama I a complete mess has been made of the middle east. They think, and rightly so, that we’re baboonish clowns that are good for amusement only.

Our side will literally do anything for the appearance of a deal. Therefore all of the power rests in the hands of Iran. They can dictate any deal they like. Then they will continue to secretly develop weapons and delivery platforms. This is North Korea all over again.

Some future president will face nuclear blackmail and will be reviled no matter which way he responds. How will we respond to a nuclear Iran when they close the Straits of Hormuz to any traffic that won’t pay their Dane geld?

In other words, they will need to lie about what has been 'accomplished' so far.

Thanks to Bush I, Bush II and Obama...

Don't forget Clinton. He decided to reconfigure Yugoslavia. Taken altogether, that's 26 years of Presidents messing up world affairs to favor the global elitist agenda.

In an important way, it's a good thing talks are continuing. The Middle East is such a mess now, you've got countries (including the US) that are allies in some situations and combatants in others. With the talks, there's at least a place where people are talking. Without that.....

Maybe Kerry could move to Switzerland. Or France, he could commute. The talks will end just after Iran's first test.

Negotiation between Iran and the US is the same as negotiation between politicians and public employee unions. Both sides want the same thing they just need to find a way to lie about how they reach the results

Public employee unions will bleed the taxpayers dry, but that is not as bad as when Iran decides to blackmail the west with their nukes.

I am surprised Iran just does claim to have nukes and make demands. This administration is willing to give them anything once it has the proper cover for doing so.

I don’t look to the media or congress to put up any resistance since for what ever reasons they have, they want the United States broken.

Frankly, I am surprised they didn’t try to announce a faux deal. Like in Syria, another Obama “red line” has been stepped over with no consequences. The “June” deadline has no meaning either.

Iran is already getting more and more sanctions relief every month under the “interim deal” already in place.

Iran also knows that with every extension (which are proving to be limitless), the US caves even more!

This outcome was entirely predictable.

The Iranians are playing our negotiators like a cheap fiddle. Good grief.

Move warships into position, begin troop buildups in the area along the Iranian border.

Then go back to the table and make clear, if they do not accept terms of the negotiations, we will begin dismantling your countries infrastructure, shut down your oil exports, seize your tankers, destroy your military bases and dig down deep into your hardened facilities.

Give’em a week.

stalling for time while the Iranians continue full court press to finish their first set of nuclear bombs on line.

They are masters at this sort of thing just as Saddam was in keeping the UN Security Council dilly-dallying for 12 years before authorizing Bush I to invade.

Damn Iran is stupid they should have asked for sun and settled for the moon...

Unless we are so chumplike with Kerry that they are holding out for far more because they know they can get it...

Thanks to Bush I, Bush II and King Obama I a complete mess has been made of the middle east.

Nice try, newbie.

All Bush 41 did was expell Iraq from Kuwait. He had the UN and a large coalition of support.

Bush 43 invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, both with approval of Congress.

Obama's ME misteps are so numerous that I will not try to list them all. But here are a few.

  1. withdrew prematurely from Iraq allowing Isis and Iran to take control of large portions of iraq.
  2. destabilized Egypt, an ally
  3. destabilized Libya with military action without congressional approval allowing Isis to take control of portions of that country.
  4. Worked against Israel, our best ally in the region.
  5. Is in talks to give Iran, the world's worst sponsor of terrorism, nukes.
