I don’t have an ID card, but I do have a VA card. If you sing up for benefits at the VA you can get a card. Also the card the DOD issues to retirees is different than the one issued by the VA.

NOTE: I’m not disabled or technically retired for the military, but I do have a VA card.

Here in MI, you show your discharge card at the Secretary of State when you re up your driver’s license and they give you a veteran’s ID right on your driver’s license.
Many stores will give you a 10% discount when you show it.
Paid off really well when we refitted out kitchen.
Lowes is one that honors.
You just have to ask and may be pleasantly surprised.

These days the VA won’t issue cards to all vets. You have to be retired or within 5 years of your last active duty.
