Krewella is no stranger to online humiliation. The sister DJ duo were once the target of cyber-bullying when they parted ways their DJ partner Kris Rain Man Trindl for alcohol and drug issues and pretending to DJ onstage. But that didnt stop people online from throwing out sexist remarks, saying they threw out the guy who did all the work.
Even today, during their set at Ultra Music Festival, Deadmau5 took to Twitter, claiming that the sisters were faking their performance.
Turns out, he didnt know what he was talking about. Its still hard for people to believe that lady DJs know their sh.
And thats why, when MTV News caught up with Krewella, Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf adamantly argued why public shaming has to stop. Its ironic because they chatted with us, just hours before Deadmau5 made his comments.
With freedom comes great responsibility. Think before you post, they said. Always think before you post. Will you still back that post tomorrow? Will you still be comfortable with what you said tomorrow? Will you be OK that you hurt someone tomorrow?
The sisters stump for Monica Lewinsky, the White House intern whom former President Bill Clinton admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with. Earlier this month, Lewinsky made a Ted Talk, discussing how online bullying almost drove her to suicide, and how she will forever live with her mistakes aired out in public. Lewinskys speech hit home for Krewella, and they promoted it on their Twitter.
When I watched that speech, I related to every single thing she said, they said. When I go to the end, I was tearing up because I felt for her. I knew exactly what that felt like.
In a male-dominated genre, theyve encountered sexism, and that sexism had been pointed at Lewinsky, who was labeled as a slut and a bimbo for her romance with Clinton. But, as people dont understand, and as Lewinsky said in her talk: It was easy to forget that that woman was dimensional, had a soul and was once unbroken.
Our generation is really caught up on public shaming and it is so acceptable, especially toward women its acceptable, Krewella said. The things you can say to a woman are so acceptable, but if you say them to a man, people will say youre wrong. I really thought her speech was admirable and incredible.
This nation needs a heaping, healthy dose of public shaming. And fast.
If Bill and Monica had both been single, their actions would have been not much more than an oddity. This wasn’t mere hyper voyeurism by the public. It was the public recognizing the situation for exactly what it was, totally unacceptable.
Monica was at least consistent. Since her teens, she only dated married men.
barf..
Can someone translate this into English please.
Ugly painted skanks.
Are they trying to clean up Monica’s image so Evita can run for President without THAT baggage?
That’s my guess, call Monica a ‘hero’ and make her a freedome fighter for Hillary. (and thereby neutralize the controversy)
We’ll be seeing those two in the same frame at some point before it’s all over, bet on it!!
Now THAT’S messed up!
Does that shirt say “Mug Me I’m Paki?”
I guess they oppose public shaming of Indiana and conservatives too??
Any middle aged male in a position of power in either the public or private sector, regardless of martial status, would have been summarily dismissed for abusing that power to have sexual relations with an 18 year old intern.
+1 for your reply. Exactly! Every summer, my place of employment is flooded with interns. If one of the directors do got caught doing what Billy did.... It was unforgivable, married or no.
She's not a hero. I don't even know why that word is getting thrown out there. But the public and personal price she paid was far greater than Clinton paid. She got used, torn apart and probably buried under a mountain of lawyers fees. She didn't have the pyschopathic skill set that Clinton did and it showed. All his legal fees were comped by us. What Bills net worth now? $250 million I'd bet. And that's not counting that disgraceful family slush fund that we pay to run. Ugh...!
“dated”, is that what they’re calling it now? /S
I agree. I believe it’s the taboo nature of doing what Clinton did behind his wife’ back that threw this way way over the line.
I do agree that by rights, any executive exploiting an intern in this manner should be fired. It shows incredible lack of leadership or character skills.
My response is to this article, that once again seeks to play this off as nothing of consequence, and something only extreme morals police could object to. Not so in my opinion.
