New Jersey Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez has been indicted on 14 federal corruption charges, including allegedly accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in improper gifts and campaign contributions in exchange for using his office to help a close friend and donor.

The 68-page indictment against Menendez was handed down by a federal grand jury in Newark on Wednesday afternoon.

Also indicted was Dr. Salomon Melgen, a longtime Menendez friend and close associate. The two men had been at the center of a lengthy criminal probe by the Justice Department and FBI.

According to the indictment, “Menendez accepted close to $1 million worth of lavish gifts and campaign contributions from Melgen in exchange for using the power of his Senate office to influence the outcome of ongoing contractual and Medicare billing disputes worth tens of millions of dollars to Melgen and to support the visa applications of several of Melgen’s girlfriends.”

Menendez, a native New Yorker of Cuban heritage,

The pay line from the article. The bold is mine.

Amazing! I was sure that Menendez would sell his Senate vote on Iran to Obama so that this indictment would be quashed.

For a New Jersey politician, that's the equivalent of a ticket for 11 MPH over the speed limit on the NJ Turnpike.

These seem they might rather easily be plead down to lesser offenses. So what of the underage teenage prostitutes? Sex with minors isn't the kind of charge that any politician can survive even touching with a 10 mile long pole. (Witness what happened to Pennsylvania ex-Gov. Tom Corbett in a tidal-wave Republican year, and he had absolutely nothing to do with the Penn State scandal, except that he was sitting in a chair in the governor's office.)

If this can happen, then why aren’t they seeking RICO charges against POTUS, the IRS, Hittlary and Lowest Lerner?
But, then they also charged Ted Stevens (screwed his campaign) and lost.

What Democrat could Chris “Krispy Kreme” Christy appoint to that Senate seat?

Cory Booker is already there.

This one is a real conundrum. On the one hand, he is probably guilty, so good, he is getting what he deserves. On the other hand, we all know that if he did not anger Obama over Iran and Cuba, the DOJ would be having a press conference today clearing his name. What is the greater danger, a crooked politician or a Justice Department that engages in political vendettas. In this case we have both.

It shows the pre-eminent position of the Chicago Mob in DC.

In similar fashion, Hillary only gets to run for POTUS if they decide to let her.

“He’s a member of the “Club” just like all the other parasites that are in Congress.”

Well, it would appear that Obola just cancelled his “membership.” Menendez is a dirty politician, but he’s where he is today because he dared to confront Obola on Iran. I guess I’m fine seeing him under indictment. After all, he comes from a long line of crooked pols in his NJ neighborhood.

=========================================

Ace WNBC-TV reporter, Jonathan Dienst investigated Menendez's shady deals. Dienst did the towering investigation of NJ Sen Robert Torricelli which forced the crook out of office.

Dienst himself has said "....the investigation of Senator Torricelli’s alleged corruption was an extraordinary exercise in journalism; going out and spending about six months on that story working almost non-stop digging and digging, trying to find corroboration to allegations that the senator had an improper relationship with a convicted felon."

" So we were out meeting with merchants, meeting with defense lawyers, meeting with investigators, members of Congress, and meeting with anyone who might have information about the senator’s alleged wrong doing."

"We obtained documents, tapes and materials and it was at a very important time. The election was coming up, the balance of power weighed in the balance and the fact that we were able to show and highlight some of the senator’s activities so that the voters knew. That was an incredible story to be a part of."
