A North Charleston police officer was arrested on a murder charge and the FBI opened a civil rights investigation Tuesday after video surfaced of the lawman shooting eight times at 50-year-old Walter Scott as he ran away.

Scott died Saturday after Patrolman 1st Class Michael Slager, 33, shot him in the back.

You need to stop inventing straw men when reality doesn’t serve your agenda.

He shot him in the back, all right.

Nice group, but I’m afraid it was a bad shoot.

“The left’s paid trolls are already inventing all kinds of additional allegations and busily peddling them, including claims of evidence planting that exists only in their fevered imaginations.”

Watch the damn video. After cuffing the guy, the officer walks back towards where he was standing, picks up a black object (consistent in size and shape with a Taser), walks back to where the guy was laying and drops the object near his feet.

That’s explicitly corruption of a crime scene. It is tampering with evidence. There is NO reason to move things around in a shooting before pictures have been taken, everything has been marked, measurements have been made, and the scene has been recorded. You are a complete shill.

“That is, it appears to show the cop planting evidence.”

The Police State boot lickers applaud that.

the guy resisting arrest, fighting with the cop, taking the taser away from him.

But the shoot did not occur until the suspect ran away from the officer and was about 50' away when the officer opened up.

At the time of the shoot, the suspect was not "fighting with the cop" nor was the suspect a threat to the officer.

Stop assuming there’s only one interpretation to what you see in the “damn video”.

Resisting and fighting, like in Ferguson is one thing shoot to save your life. That man was running away. It’s murder.

LOL, what interpretation do you see in post 37, the cop in fear for his life? A good shoot?

Why do you think the police looked at the video, and charged him with murder?

IIRC, resisting arrest, taking a cop's weapon and running away with it IS grounds for the use of lethal force. The assumption being that the person doing so is an immediate, clear and present danger to any/everyone else he crosses paths with. Police training is to treat that person as an armed, active shooter and eliminate the threat as quickly as possible.

The key here is that it sure looks like the cop picked up the taser (which qualifies as a police weapon) and then planted it on the guy after he was shot.

Once the subject was in cuffs, the officer’s responsibilities included (I) checking on the medical status of the subject who had been shot, and (II) securing the scene. was in cuffs. Please tell me, what possible interpretation of the video could possibly justify the officer’s (a) failure to provide any first aid to the subject, and (b) move any object (any object, Taser or not) from one location to another?

Once again, we have video that shows only the outcome of the incident, not the provocation.

No, the video shows the actual shooting event. And depicts very well the location of the suspect and the officer at the time of the shooting in addition to other details.

It's the shooting of the suspect is what will get the officer in big trouble, not the pursuit or what occurred with the taser, prior to the shooting.

The video clearly shows the officer shot the suspect to death as he was running away with his back to the officer about 50' away.

The suspect was clearly no threat to the officer at the time. All the other details prior to the shoot will not help the officer much in this case. IMO.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this officer is a complete moron. Why else would a white officer unload his gun into the back of a fleeing black suspect after everything we’ve seen this past year? He looked trigger happy to me.

You locals have been so on top of these issues. It gives me pride. You haven’t allowed a lot of dither. You threw out the USC girl who wrote the n word plus insults to the black race on the white board. And now, boom, this cop clearly gets murder charge. This is how it should be. Charleston is doing it right. Like the food.

Dropping anything near the suspect, is suspicious.

And stupid.

I don’t think any reasonable person would argue with that.

a.(1) his backup was arriving and could and did render care. a(2) absent supplies, about the only care you can provide in that situation is to position the individual so that he doesn't aspirate.

b. You don't leave department property laying on the ground where you can't keep an eye on it and some bystander can walk off with it.

Not as inflammatory, but they make as much sense to me as a cop trying to "plant" a weapon that wouldn't help his case any.

I stepped through the frames and never saw him plant the taser. Never saw what happened to the taser.
He sees something and picks it up at one point.

Was it the taser he picked up near the suspect and put on his belt? I couldn't tell on first look.

Agreed. And it won´t matter what happened before the video, which of course we don´t see. Or maybe the beginning of the video is edited, we will never know.
