WASHINGTON — A 17-year-old transgender youth, Leelah Alcorn, stunned her friends and a vast Internet audience in December when she threw herself in front of a tractor-trailer after writing in an online suicide note that religious therapists had tried to convert her back to being a boy.
In response, President Obama this week will call for an end to such psychiatric therapies aimed at “repairing” gay, lesbian and transgender youth, White House officials said. His decision on the sensitive issue is the latest example of his continuing embrace of gay rights.
In a statement to be posted on Wednesday evening alongside a WhiteHouse.gov petition begun in honor of Ms. Alcorn, Mr. Obama will condemn the psychiatric practice, sometimes called “conversion” or “reparative” therapy, which is supported by some socially conservative organizations and religious doctors. The petition has received more than 120,000 signatures in three months.
“We share your concern about its potentially devastating effects on the lives of transgender as well as gay, lesbian, bisexual and queer youth,” the statement, written by Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to Mr. Obama, says, according to a copy obtained by The New York Times. “As part of our dedication to protecting America’s youth, this administration supports efforts to ban the use of conversion therapy for minors.”
In an interview on Wednesday, Ms. Jarrett said Mr. Obama was moved by the story of Ms. Alcorn’s suicide. But she said the problem went far beyond her.
“It was tragic, but I will tell you, unfortunately she has a lot of company,” Ms. Jarrett said. “It’s not the story of one young person. It is the story of countless young people who have been subjected to this.”

Remember when Obama said he supported traditional marriage and that such things were above his pay grade?
Of course, then he “evolved”. But evolving suggests slow transitioning over a long period. Yet, Obama has gone from supporting traditional marriage to a wild-eyed fanatical homosexual advocate.
Obama wouldn’t be a bald-faced liar would he?
If it does work, it torpedoes their necessary political proposition that sexual orientation is inborn and unchangeable. If it turns out that the homosexual can be led to the straight life, they can no longer claim the right to be a "protected class" like race or sex or national origin.
That is why this is a key issue for homosexual politics.
Yes, it’s far better to treat a psychiatric disorder with physical mutilation.
It does work. Not always, but it does work.

Under the right circumstances I see nothing wrong with these efforts. Leave them be.
Institutionalizing him would have saved this boys life. Had someone been there to change his thought process, he would have grown into a normal, healthy, heterosexual man.
Homos are created by their own minds. They think, and rethink, and dwell on perverted thoughts. Eventually they act out on them - the same as serial killers, rapists, thieves, etc.
Change the thinking, and you change the man.
This oboma policy is going to increase suicides 100 fold. These people are going to hack up their bodies only to find out their problems weren't physical - they're mental. Once mutilated, there's no turning back.

GEnder confusion is one variant of a well-known mental illness called dymorphia. In other variants, people decide their right arm or whatever isn’t “really” their’s and needs to be removed.
If a young man decides his arm needs to come off, he’s treated for mental illness. (Not that our treatments are necessarily all that effective.)
If he decides his penis and testicles need to be removed, huge numbers of people celebrate his delusion and try to prevent anyone from suggesting he reconsider.
In a number of states, “conversion therapy” is now illegal, even for adults who voluntarily request it.

The funny thing is, both the left and right knew Obama’s real radical positions right off the bat. I guess he only wanted to fool the rubes in the middle who have no political savvy.
