This is the entirely predictable result of the abandonment of all moral standards other than “consenting adult,” with “adult” redefined ever-younger.
A 16-year-old girl (”assigned at birth”) in our local high school committed suicide last month by running in front of a truck on a dark street. The young person was “questioning” whether (no pronoun) was “lesbian,” “transgendered” or freepin’ whatall.
The young person’s mother is now an activist regarding the need for total acceptance of Whatall. Of course she is, because otherwise, she would have to question her decision to have three children without a father (or fathers) in the home, but with her live-in sex-partner who was abusing both her and the children. It’s much easier to believe that her child must have been “born the wrong gender.”
This is only going to snowball, because more and more children are being brought up in dysfunctional and abusive households, with the predictable impact on their physical and mental health. However, it is not acceptable to question the free choices of consenting adults, so the psychological trauma to the children has to be explained away.
When “gender confusion” loses its novelty, watch for “species confusion,” in which the miserable victims of their parents’ “freedom” decide that being puppies or ponies would help to ease their pain.

That’s exactly where the Tranhumanist/Postgenderists are heading.
I once spoke to a woman who was in a group for women survivors of sex abuse. All the women in the group were lesbian and had been abused sexually and/or physically by the male authority figure in the home. The woman I spoke to was not a lesbian, but had been abused sexually by both parents and all male siblings from an early age.
