Rather, they were inspired by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act that he signed on the White House South Lawn on November 16, 1993. At the time there was not much controversy about what he then said, but they are admirable lines nonetheless. Today they might be deemed heroic lines.
Back in 1993 President Clinton said that our Founding Fathers “knew that religion helps to give our people a character without which a democracy cannot survive.” Then he elaborated upon the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, saying “What this law basically says is that the government should be held to a very high level of proof before it interferes with someone’s free exercise of religion. This judgment is shared by the people of the United States as well as by the Congress. We believe strongly that we can never, we can never be too vigilant in this work.” In the coming years some thirtystates adopted variations of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and all was quiet until whammo.
The Governor of Indiana signed the Hoosier state’s variant of the law with emphasis that the law not encourage other forms of discrimination. Of a sudden, the top brass at Walmart, Apple, and—for some reason—the National Collegiate Athletic Association joined in a Grand Concordat with the top brass at various gay and lesbian rights organizations to smite Indiana good and hard. The Indiana legislature backed down. The state of Arkansas contemplated similar legislation. The victorious alliance set its sights on the thirty other offending states.

Any governor or state legislator, when asked about their state version of RFRA, should quote Clinton verbatim and then walk away.

This graphic encapsulates the issue in an easy to understand visual. It needs to get wide spread attention. It accurately portrays predatory homosexuals in their efforts to force Christians to affirm the deviant lifestyle of homosexuals.
I've been thinking it needs to be made into stickers that can be slapped on the windows of Walmarts and Apple stores. Corporate Homo-Fascism needs a response.
Not sure Walmart deserves this, but Apple surely does, as does Starbucks (richly deserves it).
It is my understanding that Walmart deliberately pressed the Governor of Arkansas not to sign the religious freedom bill. That puts them squarely in the Homo-Fascist camp in my opinion.
I think people who patronize these businesses need to be informed about just what these businesses are supporting.
They made a business decision.
The law, strictly speaking, shouldn’t be necessary. The right thing to do is to pressure the state to CEASE issuing marriage licenses.
They never should have got in the business of regulating a religious sacrament.
The way out of this is to force couples to file an article of incorporation, and durable power of attorney for each other. No more marriage licenses.
If the state wants to incentivize people to HAVE children - actually produce them, then they can figure out what they want to do about that.
However, this fixes the problem completely. Dissolve the family court system and send everyone to the civil part.
This ends the advantage women have over men. Both plead a case and a judge rules. Done and done.
