Usually the difference is in the stock and finishes, not in the metal parts. As an example Marlin’s classic 30-30 lever action is offered just before hunting season at low prices in a variety of chain stores. But they have stained birch stocks instead of walnut. But it’s the same Marlin regardless of the store or chain. Same distributors the sole owner shops use.
A lot of folks see them as working tools not safe queens.
Mine aren’t in a safe. They get used, though mostly as entertainment.
I’ve just been burned (freezer burned in some cases) by WM too many times. I don’t trust them for any product that might kill me if it sucks.
