If you believe that life begins at conception (at the moment the egg is fertilized), the joy that two new lives have entered the world, needs to be tempered by the fact that six other lives were snuffed out. IVF has been the cause of the death of over two million children since 1990.
But again, that is only if you believe that life begins at conception, which I do, which makes me agree with Tax-chick's Eeeew.
Though in all fairness, I believe her Eeeew was more from the reality that Ellen was made pregnant using her step-fathers sperm. I think that Eeeew worthy.
Ellen, the birth mother, observes, “I have been through some very stressful situations in my life and I dont tend to get very emotional about things any more. I lost my emotions a long time ago.”
Among other things, this makes one wonder about the parental fitness of Jenny, the genetic and legal mother, although apparently Tony, the genetic and legal father, wasn’t in the picture at the time Ellen lost her emotions.
Yes, it’s EEEEEW on several levels, from the six dead siblings to the gestational incest ... but the two living chidren still deserve the best life possible.
Well I didn’t know that some embryos were killed. I am not for that. What I am for is a set of parents who cannot have children turn to their family and even friends to assist them in having a baby.
My precious daughter exists because the wonderful family who created her wanted to give those embryos a chance at life, and we wanted to, as well. An excellent way to build a family.
