Ted Cruz to GOP field at NRA: Prove 'you bled' fighting Barack Obama
Examiner ^ | April 11, 2015 | Joe Newby

Posted on 04/11/2015 10:01:55 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

While addressing some 4,000 NRA members on Friday, Sen. Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican now running for the White House, challenged other Republicans running for office to prove they "bled" standing for principle while fighting Barack Obama, the Washington Examiner reported Saturday. Cruz, Pau Bedard said, mocked candidates in past primaries for being all talk but no action.

"There are a lot of good men and women thinking about running in 2016 and we've been around the block before," Cruz said in a teleprompter-free speech that lasted nearly 20 minutes. "We understand that in a Republican primary and everyone stands up and says, 'Gosh diddley, I'm the most conservative guy who ever lived.'"

But, Cruz added, "somehow actions don't always seem to follow those words." Now, he said, voters need to challenge primary contenders and dare them to "show their wounds," so to speak.

"For far too long politicians have said one thing and done another," he said. "Everyone of us should ask any candidate that shows up in front of you, 'You say you believe these principles, show me. When have you stood up and fought for them, when have you bled for them, and what have you accomplished?'"

"You know," Cruz added, "I had a former boss who used to say, 'If I'm ever accused of being a Christian, I'd like there to be enough evidence to convict me.'" He went on to say the same should apply to conservatives seeking office.

"The same is true of being a conservative," he said. "In a Republican primary every candidate is going to stand up and say, 'I oppose Obamacare.' The question we ought to ask is, 'Great, when have you stood up and fought to stop Obamacare!' And every candidate is going to say they

It is the “Conservative” pretenders who knifed the real fighters in the back, and now talk like they’re Ronald Reagan. But all they do is talk. Viva Cruz!

That has been my issue all along. Get rid of the talkers and let’s pick a guy who actually has tangible results. Although I am apparently not allowed to mention his name.....so I won’t.

I’m expecting Cruz’s mic to go dead often during the debates.

I support Ted Cruz. Having stated that I would say that staking out the “I am the biggest Obama hater in the field” position does not appeal to me.

Nice strawman you've got there. I don't recall him saying that.

"Sen. Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican now running for the White House, challenged other Republicans running for office to prove they "bled" standing for principle while fighting Barack Obama..."

You equate standing for principle as "I am the biggest Obama hater"? On what planet?

With all our country has gone through since 2009, no conservative should be lazy.

I just now saw the video which I judged to be superior to his announcement at Liberty U.

Also, I thought of your post which I had read beforehand.

WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ALL THE NRA ATTENDEES?! Why weren't they enthusiastically applauding and showing support for EVERYTHING Cruz was saying?! WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THEM FOR BEING SO SHEEPISH AND POLITE WITH THEIR APPLAUSE?!

Then I realized why so many are bailing on the NRA and why it's become as bad as or worse than CPAC:

Those were not all Constitutional conservatives; they were just regular Republican politicians not wanting to show too much support for Cruz.

Damn them! NRA members or not. Damn them for sitting on their hands or merely giving polite applause during that speech by Ted Cruz.

It really is now or never, FReepers.

The end of the article is WRONG. It was CRUZ who filibustered for 13 hours, not Paul.

Your boy Walker has done a real sweet job on the small stage, but his total body of work on the national stage pales in comparison to Senator Cruz.

Your boy Cruz hasn’t had results on the national stage or small stage. I can’t believe you find Cruz impressive next to Walker. Stunning. You are so intelligent too. There is something wrong when a talker is persuading you. If he had one result in the Senate then maybe I could get on board but he has nothing of substance.

I think they were both involved. Of course Wendy Davis did so in Texas so they are in the same situation. Talk for hours while accomplishing nothing.

You need to pay better attention, fangirl. To say Cruz has no accomplishments is moronic, see post 10 for starters. Pathetic fangirl.

“Ted Cruz calls “Radical Islamic Terrorism” by that same name. Will Ron-Rand Paul do the same...NEVER”

In fairness, Rand Paul has already done this. Not so much “NEVER” as every speech since his announcement. It’s part of his stump speech.

You’re right, I’m wrong, sorry.
They both filibustered, also Senator Mike Lee.

I’m watching his speech now. What’s with his request to text 33733 with the word, “Constitution?” Where will that go?

Most people remember the marathon filibuster mounted by Ted Cruz opposing ending debate on the issue of defunding Obamacare that lasted over 21 hours (21 hrs 19 min).

The nearly 13 hour filibuster by Rand Paul was on the issue of using drones against American citizens on American soil.

Cruz and Paul assisted each other's filibuster by making lengthy statements, posed in the form of questions, giving their colleague a chance to temporarily yield the floor and take a rest.
