I don't know about the spread, but I DO know (being native Boston born, transplanted to Pa), this was more snow than "I" ever knew and knew of

Hurricane Carol of 55, sure .... and snow occasionally waist deep ... but not humongous snowfalls of this year

Here in SW Pa, we had the severest COLD ever (IMO) .... 4 or 5 zero and sub zero snaps lasting for days with teens in between .... I don't know of any records to compare, but no one here has ANY recollection ... even of a story about such.
