The shooting occurred April 4.

It appears he wasn't even interviewed by investigators until 3 days after the incident.

I don’t know what the real story is, but since they are charging him with murder, shutting up is the smartest thing he can do.

Yup...I was told by my Concealed Weapons Instructor if I am ever involved in a shooting to not say a word and ask for my attorney..he also said its good to have an atty to have on speed dial on your cell phone.

I’ve seen some people try to make a big deal out of the fact that his original attorney quit.

Looks to me like the first one was a Police Union atty and once Slager was fired, he lost that union protection AND the union lawyer.

When investigators attempted to speak to Slager, he told them he had retained an attorney, Berry said.

Take a hint from this guy. Any time you are involved in a shooting, get a lawyer, keep your mouth shut.

If he said nothing at the scene, it means he is not an idiot. Never talk to the cops.

Why is cop charged with murder laughing in audio clip?

It's a video. I don't have Flash installed and can't watch it right now.

Yup. Never talk to a cop without an attorney in a case like that.

Ricks firearms academe in Detroit brings in lawyers and cops to explain how to deal with the situation without incriminating yourself if you shoot someone. In one video I saw the cop tells the class that they shouldn’t even tell the 911 operator that you shot someone. Just explain that there has been a shooting and someone is down. When police arrive tell them that you would like to have an attorney present for questioning. You may or may not be arrested but you haven’t incriminated yourself.

“Police Union atty and once Slager was fired, he lost that union protection AND the union lawyer.”

I don’t think that’s how it works though. He would have to be covered because the incident happened during the course of employment — fired or not.

Makes sense right?

My instructor said the have chest pains and get taken to the hospital, where you meet your attorney. And...expect to never see your pistol again.

Is he a police union attorney or not?

So far there isn’t any reason to think so.

“Following the release of the cellphone video that contested Slager’s version of events, Aylor removed himself as Slager’s attorney. Neither Aylor or Slager’s current attorney, Andy Savage, could immediately be reached for comment

Here's an audio file at YouTube. I wouldn't expect it to have much if any bearing on the case, but it's interesting to see what's out there in public media.

The defense on this is clear and will be compelling for the jury to hang. The fleeing suspect went for his weapon in the mind of the officer. — either pocket or shirt. It will be over at that point. Very clear what actually happened.

According to the audio file, Slager was told that he would be “off for a couple of days” and to get home and jot down his “thoughts” on “what happened.”

Not trying to reflect any opinion on the matter, but a cop involved in ANY shooting is supposed to stay quiet until his FOP provided legal assistance is present. This is common practice. He was likely following advice of council

SLED’s an arm of the Governor’s office, their investigators usually work for the prosecutor. I wouldn’t talk to them without Counsel present either.

There’s video available of Slager being told by another officer that the normal process is to wait a few days before the formal interview.
