An Oregon sheriff said Tuesday that he will not enforce an upcoming state law that expands gun background checks to include private sales, The Herald and News reported.

Sheriff Dave Daniel, from Josephine County, which sits on the border with California, told the paper that it appears that the law is not in line with the county’s charter and said he does not have the personnel to pursue violators committing a misdemeanor.

Josephine County is a beautiful area and a nice place to live. If the sheriff is facing budget shortfalls, it isn’t due to a lack of cash flowing through the area. If all the dope growers contributed even just a small percentage of their profits from each years harvest, that sheriff’s department would be rolling in money. Perhaps the sheriff and the growers could reach an agreement that if they start financially supporting him that he goes after the Mexican cartel growers FIRST. That could potentially be a full time job for the whole department all on its own. I can’t imagine anybody except the cartels not liking that arrangement.

Here in Eastern Washington, (the Red part of the Blue State), Sheriffs have said no to enforcement of the Unconstitutional Law too.

Hard to enforce a law no one will comply with. I don’t think any gun owner is going to register their weapons by fiat with a back ground check. I know Iwouldn’t.

I liver in JoCo and I think the legalizing of pot is awful, regardless of whether it would be taxed or not.

Farms all around us are being turned into pot farms, with high-intensity floodlights, guard dogs, high fences, armed security, it’s awful, like living in Cartagena.

I’m disheartened by the background check bill, I have no problem with calling the OSP and finding if my buyer has no criminal record, but this does way more than that...it gets entered into the state records and is kept for five years, that’s de facto registration.

As far as the sheriff not enforcing it, I’m not sure if that matters, there’s plenty of other LEO’s around who’d do the job.

I agree with you on both issues. Haven’t been up that way in 30 years. I used to really love that area, but even then, the dope growers were getting big. I made a hard decision and left that area for where I now have been living ever since in NM. The problem is, that this area now has many libtards moving to it as well, and of course they want to change the politics here too. The past two legislative sessions there were bills crafted very similar to the Oregon one. Our governor, Susana Martinez (whom I used to strongly support) came out beforehand and stated that if the legislation passed, she would sign it. She blew ALL credibility with me on that issue alone, since prior to gaining office, I directly asked her, and she looked me in the eye and stated she would absolutely NOT sign ANY anti 2A legislation if she were elected. I think she is right on about so many other issues, but don’t touch our gun rights! Fortunately, the dope growers here are not yet as bad as they are near you and just south into CA. But that’s changing too. What to do????
