Lincoln Chafee: 'I'm running' and here's why
CNN ^ | 04-16-2015 | By Jedd Rosche and Dan Merica

Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee said Thursday on CNN that he's running for the Democratic nomination for president, just a week after announcing he formed an exploratory committee, his most definitive statement he's made toward formalizing a 2016 campaign.

"Yes, that's why I'm running. Because I feel strong about where we're going as a country," Chafee told CNN's "New Day" on Thursday, when asked why he's been so critical of Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. Chafee was asked by CNN's John Berman in the context of having not formally declared his presidential campaign.

Chafee spokeswoman Debbie Rich said Chafee did not declare himself as a candidate for president Thursday, despite saying "that's why I'm running."

"We are still in the exploratory committee phase," she told CNN in a phone interview, adding, "We will file the proper papers to be an official candidate, but that has not happened yet."

Chafee, a former Republican and former senator, announced he was forming an exploratory committee last week. Chafee's been differentiating himself from fellow Democratic primary contenders by taking sharp jabs at Clinton, willing to be more critical than would-be challengers former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley or former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb over her vote in Congress to authorize the war in Iraq.

"That was a moment where the premise for going to Iraq was so false that there were weapons of mass destruction; she didn't do her homework. We live with the ramifications," Chafee told CNN's "State of the Union" over the weekend. "You may say that's 12 years ago — that's a big motivator for me running. If you show a lack of judgment, lack of doing homework then, what can we expect in the future?"

The Democrat who wins the primary will become President, no matter what.

If this were the case, I think I'd prefer Hillary to about anyone else the Democrats will run. At least she isn't a full-blown communist.

She'll govern as her husband did, hold her finger to the air and follow the direction the wind is blowing.

What do you know: an actual useful purpose for an old RINO — becoming a ‘Rat and mounting a primary challenge to bloody someone even further to the left.

The carousel is getting full.................

A carousel is so... so... horizontally circular and spins.

The more appropriate metaphor is a bowl shape, with a vortex swirling downward.

Just get to that magic 5% threshold for FEC matching funds and the rest doesn’t matter. Another lib with zero marketable skills.

“”Coming soon...Obama endorsement ???””

Hell Obama is such a damn liar he will endorse them ALL.

Over and over again. The LIVs in the Democratic party will not know the dif anyway.

350,000 have just crossed the border and do not speak a lick of English.

Another 200,000 are being flown in from Syria and put in resettlement camps in Red States like Texas to turn the State Blue.

Elections ain’t going to fix shitte. Time to weed the USA and make it a productive garden again.

Chafee is unable to think independently. This is not his doing. He was my gov - gov gump won in 2010 in a 3 way race with 38%. Leave it up to RI not to have run off. Another 3 way race this past election gave us Raimondo with less than 50%. Mr. holiday tree don’t be divisive himself has already needed to be covered up for.

Chafee had to be asked to run and more than likely has been promised something for doing so. He’s only in for the following.

1) to help make HiLIARly look plausible
2) being a a former RINO shill; to bring in attack mimes against republicans so other contenders stay above it.
3) Both 1 & 2

He declined to run for reelection in RI because he was unpopular...

No, no, no. It's

"He [Chafee] declined to run for reelection in RI
because of health reasons. The voters got sick of him."

Nah, Hillary just needs a sparring partner, and Chaffee volunteered his services. Left out there on her own, without party competition, people might just notice how empty her cupboard really is.

Wow, when your opening salvo is ‘she voted for the war in Iraq’ while at the same time your nominal party leader and President is giving away the store on nuclear weapons - I know liberals can be quite focused on their own little fantasy worlds, but that is really taking the cake.

I mean, really, best attack out the gate is over Iraq - think liberals are suddenly going to go ‘oh my gosh, you’re RIGHT, she did vote for that, well, we’d better go running over to the person who used to be in the Republican party who used to declare themselves independent...’

Couldn’t Chafee start with, well, at least something from her time as Secretary of State.. Maybe even tied the two together ‘You don’t get to use a reset button on your history and ignore the vote for war in Iraq...’

I realize they are in softball mode, but still, the brilliance shown so far would be great for our side if the other side didn’t act as Borg for every little thing. It is bitter irony that the Democratic party is the one which least tolerates the slightest deviation from group think.

I don’t think 90% of the voters know about Saul Alinsky and
his left-wing ideology.

Does this mean he’s finally gotten a brain, or is he going to campaign without one... ...again.

"Yes, that's why I'm running. Because I feel strong about where we're going as a country," Chafee told CNN's "New Day" on Thursday

Well, I "feel" strongly about idiots running for president. Especially idiots who cannot even put together a basic sentence in a grammatically correct manner.
