IMO this guy acted on the direction of a provocateur. If he would have been shot down and killed, Campaign Finance Reform would have rocketed front-and-center of the public’s attention and the news cycle.

Yes and no. The American left uses events for its own propaganda purposes, but rarely initiates the event itself. Orchestrate and encourage, sure. That way there’s plausible deniability between the origin and the outcome of anything that happens. I tend to see the left as having a prepared strategy that can be applied once something comes up - think Trayvon and Ferguson. If they can use it, they will try, and if they fail - think Gabby Giffords and Sandy Hook - they’ll try again.
