I didn't know that the Canucks were a hockey team until I looked them up this morning. There I was, dressed in my jacket and tie, on my way to lieder concert, and everybody going in the other direction had Canucks shirts and jerseys on. One guy put his hand out for a high five, which I duly gave, but I didn't know why. The Vancouver team apparently is headed for the NHL playoffs.

I have a hard time linking weed and hockey. Beer and hockey, yes!

I really like the old Moody Blues and cannot believe they are not in the Rock and Roll HOF.

Mahler: "Where the Fair Trumpets Sound"

A nightingale is in the lyrics. Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Elizabeth Schwarzkopf with George Szell conducting the London Symphony Orchestra. This song is quoted extensively in his First Symphony.

Ping. Lots of lieder here tonight. Check the thread for Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Mahler.

That's a good pick, real sax. So is Lullaby of Birdland, by George Shearing. But what surprises me is that no one has mentioned Hoagy Carmichael's Skylark!

Am I the only one here who remembers the American classics? I'm just 66 and I feel I'm not in my age group and I wonder where the boomers are.
