Warren’s brilliant idea: If kids had no student loans, they would ‘have a lot more money’

Elizabeth Warren took one of her characteristically earth-shattering ideas to the Daily Show Thursday night: “If we would reduce the interest rate on student loans, young people would have a lot more money to spend.”

“Right–and then they could buy more weed and then they’d be quieter!” Stewart interjected.

That wasn’t quite the point Warren wanted to make—but it does a good job of highlighting how ridiculous her economic thinking–or lack thereof–is.

Warren has tried—and failed—in the past to lower student loan interest rates by raising taxes on the wealthy. On Stewart’s show, she continued her never-ending quest to convince the audience that it’s just not fair that kids have to pay a lot of money for college, and the problem is all those mean millionaires who won’t pay for everything.

“Why can’t we reduce the interest rate? Why can’t we just say look, that’s not what we should be doing as a country?” she asked.

“We should not say to kids, if your mom and dad can write a check for college you pay this much for college but if they can’t, you’ve got to pay a much higher rate because you’ve got to pay more on your student loans.”

“We should not be charging our kids more to get a loan to go to college than we charge big financial institutions in order to finance their businesses,” she declared.

“Why can’t we reduce the interest rate?

Lieawatha, you are entirely welcome to offer as many zero interest loans as you like. Just do it with your own damned money, not mine!

If I didn’t have to pay income taxes, I’d have a lot more money.

I agree...The loan rates are out of whack...but they’re tied to their eventual paycheck and IIRC, not subject to bankruptcy. Kinda like the Mafia works.....squeeze’m.

The “free money” that student loans feel like are the reason college is so expensive. If kids and parents were paying as they went, they would not run up those kinds of bills. And the laws of supply and demand would correct the system accordingly.

I agree. We need to destroy Academia's monopoly on credentials. Feeding and pampering hateful Liberals who operate colleges is a problem in several different ways, among them is cost.

Online schooling and low cost degree programs are just the tools we need to take the funding away from these vile people, and to empower students.

Of course I don't think this is what Liberal nitwit Warren has in mind. More like she thinks the government should be tapped to pay for these ridiculous and harmful expenses.

.... it’s just not fair that kids have to pay a lot of money for college, and the problem is all those mean millionaires who won’t pay for everything.

This from a woman who lied about her heritage and thereby stole a seat from a member of one of those under-served communities she purports to care so much about.

Did Jon Stewart aks her about that? No? I figured as much.

Did he aks her about her practicing law without a license? No? Color me shocked. Or chartreuse. Chartreuse makes me look slimmer.

The easiest way to make anything ridiculously expensive is to tell the gov't they need to make it "affordable".

Why not just give all 7 billion people in the world a US government no-limit EBT card?

It would be a lot more effective and far quicker to reduce the obscene salaries paid to some professors, such as the $400,000 annual compensation Warren received from Harvard. Anyone with such a child like understanding of economics such as she has, deserves zero compensation for her propagandizing of students.

” not what we should be doing”

Who is “WE” Marxahantus Warren?

“I” am paying for “MY” kids education. There is no “WE”.
We; as defined by the Constitution; has no right or power to pay for anyone’s education.

Students however are a huge problem. In her feeble attempt at saying something; Marxahantus stumbles across some truth.
The answer however is not getting other people to pay for your student loans.
The answer is figuring out how to not have student loans.
Community colleges work well, working while in school is a good thing.
Getting rid of the massive; expensive ivory towers is also needed.
Use a model with online classes; no college sports teams, part time NON TENURED teachers.

Of course, no mention of options such as trade schools, serving, or learning skills that offer real value to employers instead of degrees in womyn’s and homosexual studies. I guess offering real solutions would solve the problems and make their pandering unnecessary.
