FBI admits that ALL its forensic experts exaggerated hair evidence at every criminal trial for nearly 20 years
The FBI and Justice Department have admitted forensic examiners from a DNA unit gave flawed evidence at nearly all United States criminal trials spanning 20 years.
It has been reported that 26 employees in the agency's microscopic hair comparison laboratory overstated forensic matches so they favored prosecutors in the 1980s and 1990s.
Research involving the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the Innocence Project say that 95 per cent of 268 trials reviewed had been impacted.
The Washington Post reported that of the 200 convictions affected, 32 defendants were sentenced to death - 14 of which have since been executed or died behind bars.
Those who are still alive have been sent letters explaining the errors and how they can used further DNA testing to prove the evidence.
The mistakes do not automatically prove the convict's innocence...

“the agency’s microscopic hair comparison laboratory overstated forensic matches so they favored prosecutors in the 1980s and 1990s.”
And right around that time the completely shaved head look got popular. Those crooks aren’t dumb.
Ridiculous conspiracy theories.
More ridiculous conspiracy theories.
Even MORE ridiculous conspiracy theories.
How d'ya like me NOW?
There should simply be no federal criminal statutes at all not even for interstate actions. The states should be solely responsible for criminal law and prosecution. No federal police or investigatory agency should have any connection to crime investigations and should be limited to counter espionage.
Starting back in 1995 on whose watch?
Based on just this one article you have decided that people have been wrongfully convicted?
You beat me to it. The U. S. media is dead. If you want the news read the Telegraph and the Daily Mail.
Did Bill Clinton report for his ten-year perjury sentence when I wasn't looking?
How about Charlie Rangel? That tax evasion conviction indictment go through yet? Lois Lerner get whacked with that foot-high stack of felony charges for passing out IRS files to other agencies yet?
Jon Corzine get hauled in for co-mingling investor funds, a billion or two worth? Hillary Clinton indicted for the felonies involved in her little email server scheme?
There is no law in McMinn County
Laws are for peasants, MileHi. Wake up.
You are assuming that there are a lot of wrongful convictions (i.e. convictions of people who did not actually commit a crime).
I didn't "randomly post something from the British media".
I read the British media because it's a waste of my time reading NAMBOLA media. (North American Media-Barack Obama Love Association)
motto - "We're not as bad as NAMBLA, as far as YOU know!"
The Compost is one of the worst of the worst of NAMBOLA. They've actually targeted Free Republic before at the behest of the White House at the time (The Pantload). This was just a little bit before your time, so I forgive you in advance.
The Compost wouldn't hesitate to sue a FR poster for "copyright infringement" if it served Barack Obama's interests, so I stay away from them. Plus, their website is crap, even after wading through all the propaganda.
The UK Daily Mail seems to be interested in people actually reading and sharing their stuff, plus, I like their website.
I do share Laz's view on "the American propaganda machine", and I've been a Merkun media critic on FR for 18 years. Let's just say I have a little bit of experience in the area...
HOWEVER! When Iron Munro wrote: "So the odds are that every action has a hidden political component and is calculated to advance the leftist agenda.", that must be taken into account here because the original article indeed came from the Compost (which I saw at the time, but didn't care about because they is who they is)

LOL! I saw what you did there...

And it's STILL Rush Limbaugh's fault... LOL! The Pantload lives!
Geez, that's easy. George W. Bush's fault. LOL! :)
I talked with a Victim’s Group once and told them that I never trusted DNA evidence, it seemed too perfect...we were thinking the other way, how people get off on DNA evidence, and I still have NO DOUBT that also goes on. How the hell does one fight it?
MOST OF US here have seen story after story that the Brits report and is NEVER picked up by our media.
Other than the fact that this might empty out our jails (which our media dreams of), it does seem reasonable to expect that it would simply be another ignored theory.
A LOT OF US wonder how our media constantly spikes stories, and MAJOR STORIES, without it being some kind of conspiracy.
Well, guess what? this Daily Mail article you love so much was just a reprint of an original investigative report by WaPo (who by the way has been after this sort of junk science in criminal trials for at least 3 years now), and there would have been no Daily Mail article about this without the work WaPo (which you hate so much) did.
Well, guess what?
I knew that before I posted the article, dipstick.
Or didn't you read my lengthy post to you and the others above?
kiryandil wrote, above: "...because the original article indeed came from the Compost (which I saw at the time, but didn't care about because they is who they is)"
And do you want to know exactly how I knew that the Washington Post reported on it? Because it's in the original article excerpt that I posted:
"The Washington Post reported that of the 200 convictions affected..."
A bit "reading comprehension challenged", are we? LOL! :)
“dipstick”? You sound EXACTLY like a liberal!
As heads is tails just call me Lucifer
‘Cause I’m in need of some restraint
GREAT rock-and-or-roll song - “Gimme Shelter” is one of my top 5.
LOL! I guess 18 years on Free Republic will do that to you...
n00bs. We tolerate them & their fluff, but not much.
Since when is freeing people who were wrongfully convicted a leftist agenda?
When you are a statistic "law and order conservative".
statistic = statist
Even my spell check doesn’t like the word.
How the “Famous But Incompetent” made their bones.......
