Fox News host grills Ted Cruz on being too conservative to get independents

Ted Cruz knocks it out of the park again.

Ted was on with Martha MacCallum this morning who grilled him on getting independents versus just sticking with the base. MacCallum started with the premise that Cruz is too conservative but he refuted that nonsense and told her that he’s already seeing a wider coalition of voters including Reagan Democrats and independents among his supporters. But she still insisted on sticking with her premise, asking Cruz if he even wants the independent vote. Cruz responded that of course he wants independents. He explained to MacCallum, as he as told others in the past, that his common sense principles are something that most Americans can agree on and that will draw independents as well as conservatives.

MacCallum also asked him about his comments on concealed carry on military bases and that he had been pressing McCain, and that McCain says he doesn’t remember being pressed by Cruz. He admitted that he may have misspoke in saying he’s been pressing McCain, as he’s been pressing the Senate Armed Services Committee and that McCain is the new Chairman of that committee.

Cruz should be able to win both the conservative GOPers and the conservative moderates. That might equal 25 percent of the whole electorate. I’m not saying he won’t win, but he’ll need most of the rest of the GOP and the moderate independents to do so.

I’m registered to vote as an Independent.

Yes, I’m one of those angry conservatives who left the GOP
(in 2006, when George W. said that “see you at the signing” BS in regards to amnesty).

I was moving at the time from one town to another and had to re-register anyway, so I decided to say so-long to the GOPe.

Last I heard Romney won independents in the last election. You know why Obama won in 2012? His base was fired up and ours wasn’t because we ran a pale pastel RINO for the presidency.

FOX is confusing ‘moderates’ and ‘independents’...many independents are conservatives who got sick and tired of the GOP..

Great point, and the results of the 2014 election shows that the independents strongly voted conservative.

Romney was the first nominee in history to win hugely among the independents, yet lose the race, and he did it in an election that republicans couldn’t lose.

—Romney first to win independents big, lose election

—”Whoever wins independent voters in Ohio, wins Ohio,” Beeson said on “Fox News Sunday,” two days before the election.
He was, of course, wrong. Romney won self-identified Independents in Ohio by a overwhelming 10 points, according to exit polls, but lost the state to President Barack Obama by 2 points.
A similar trend was seen across much of the country — Romney won among Independents by 5 points, 50-45, but lost to Obama, 51-48.

—INFOGRAPHIC: Obama Lost Independent Vote In Almost Every Swing State
The president only won the independent vote in one battleground state: North Carolina.
Things looked very different for Obama in 2008, when independent voters came out in huge numbers to support him.
Just before Election Day, the Wall Street Journal reported those polling numbers had hardly changed, with Romney overwhelmingly leading among independent voters across the country. Republican pollster Bill McInteruff told the Journal the Democrats were “really flirting with trouble if you’re losing independents by this margin.”

“Its far too early to say if Jeb is too liberal for independents”

And Fox isn’t even asking that question...but they should. Fair and Balanced, ya know?

Ted Cruz has a better chance of being killed in a drone strike than getting an even break on Faux News.

I watched the entire interview of Ted Cruz by Martha MacCallum.

She never made a dent in Ted Cruz. He came across as highly competent and very, very savy.

Dear Martha grilled no one.

I tried my bet source but everyone has shut up except inner family. No one believes it was exercise equipment though. Maybe his drunk brother Larry hit him with a bottle is my guess, it was just before New Years. Reid had sold his property where Larry had a bungalow, so I imagine he was stressed.

Cruz easily handled Mushy Middle Martha and her RINO attacks...

Cruz is the ONLY true conservative running.

I question the premise of there being a wide swath of Independent voters in the middle. I am independent myself because I don’t like either the “left” party or the “lefter” party. I’m not independent because I’m in the middle or undecided.

The more popular he becomes, the more security he’ll need. Pretty soon, he’ll have to be 1/2 Iron Man, 1/2 Hulk.

Fox News Loves Hillary
++++
With all due respect that is simply nonsense. Fox News is not Free Republic but neither is it MSNBC.

Here is my best guess at the Fox News ranking of the candidates:

Bush
Rubio
Walker
Huckabee
Christie
Paul
Cruz
Clinton

I do not believe in conservative moderates. Did you mean conservative independents?

I believe conservatives actually still make up the majority of the US Electorate. Some just have the democrat party love and republican hate built into them from birth that they wind up voting against their own interests, and then when you offer them a milquetoast like Romney or McCain, why bother? Neither was/is conservative to begin with.

When Reagan ran he won a huge swarth of conservative democrats and independents because he was the real deal.

We haven’t had anyone like that run since 1984, which was a huge victory then.

I think we can do it again. I’ll vote Cruz/Walker or even Walker/Cruz (for those who think senators need some OJT). It will be far more than 25% in my not so humble opinion!
