There was a small political earthquake Wednesday on the right side of the political spectrum, as Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), who has had some nice things said about him by some very rich people, said something on immigration that likely displeased those same people. On Glenn Beck’s radio show, Walker said the following:

Now this has prompted something of a pundit civil war on the right, with Philip Klein, Ben Domenech, Matt K. Lewis and The Washington Post’s own Jennifer Rubin blasting Walker — and Ramesh Ponnuru, Matthew Boyle, Rich Lowry and Ross Douthat defending Walker.
Policy-wise, I have a dog in this fight, and that dog is very much in favor of expanding legal immigration. In part, this is because doing so is a really nifty way of reducing illegal immigration, and because I’m a big fan of the United States not becoming a demographic disaster going forward. Douthat provides the most cogent defense of Walker’s position, and even he acknowledges that, “the strictly economic data doesn’t prove [Walker or] Jeff Sessions’ case in a definitive way.”....

Who is arguing against Walker’s statement?
He explained the whole thing on HANNITY, and even Sean didn’t run screaming from the set. And neither did we.
Attending to the obvious US job losses for citizens who are being replaced by this damndable Chamber of Commerce movement bringing in these low wage earners, who pay no taxes and ship their income home, is a no-brainer that every Republican candidate will have to answer for.
I have no doubt that Cruz has a brain and will be attending the immediate problem the very same way. Who wouldn’t?
Walker, I thought, already said that the Border is a no-brainer and must be closed. He is talking about the rules of the road for the future.
What I want to know is would somebody tell me what exactly, is wrong with the US immigration rules and policy already in place, and that have been for ions of time??
Nobody says simply, “enforce the laws on the books”.

I live in Vegas, home to 100s of thousands of illegals. It isn’t just jobs, there is a huge burden on the schools, infrastructure and crime. Yes, crime, they aren’t cherubs crossing the border.
If we started outsourcing Professor Do-Nothing’s, immigration talk would end.

That's a good strategy! Whites broke overwhelmingly for the GOP in 2014, which was the source of the sweeping gains the party made.
Continually harping on Chelsea's $25 Million apartment, her father-in-law: who is a convicted felon, former Democratic Congressman, and rich banker, Hillary and Bill's status as 1%ers, all their wealth coming in the form of legal bribes for speaking fees and such -- those are all great class warfare talking points I'm using with tard acquaintances.
I believe We can be effective in either switching their votes to the GOP, or getting them to abstain or vote Green.

Walker’s comments are certainly causing some heartburn among the open-borders, give-our-country-away crowd.
Kudos to Walker for speaking out on this. I hope he continues to do so and I hope he is as sincere on this as Sessions is.

Both the Left and the Right are taking issue with it. There are many on the right who want more legal immigration for economic reasons. They view Walker’s statement as a threat to legal immigration, which it really isn’t. He just calls for considering American wages to be weighed when deciding both the number and the skill set of the legal immigrants that should be allowed each year. Interestingly, taking this tack requires assuming that illegal immigration will be ended; the conversation makes no sense otherwise. So, Walker, in one fell swoop, has refocused the conversation on legal immigration levels and American wages, with the tacit assumption being that illegal immigration must be ended. (I believe Canada, for instance, does exactly what he’s advocating...tried getting into Canada with a DUI on your record lately?...they do police their border.)
The left argues differently, and with a forked tongue as usual, when they claim that Walker is anti-immigrant with his new stance, practically claiming that he’s disgracing the Statue of Liberty, when of course their position is based primarily on bringing more voters in, rather than protecting American wages. They must realize that advocating for more immigrants directly conflicts with the goal of raising the wages of American employees, and they’re no doubt afraid that Walker has just painted them into a very tight corner where they might actually be forced to choose between higher American wages or more potential voters.
This was a risky move on Walker’s part, as illustrated by the squeals from the Right, but I think it will turn out to be a very good one, and one that will change the conversation on the Right, while putting the Left very much on the spot.
