Former CIA Director David Petraeus, whose career was destroyed by an extramarital affair with his biographer, was sentenced Thursday to two years' probation and fined $100,000 for giving her classified material while she was working on the book.
The sentencing came two months after he agreed to plead guilty to a federal misdemeanor count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material.
The plea agreement carried a possible sentence of up to a year in prison. In court papers, prosecutors recommended two years' probation and a $40,000 fine. But Judge David Kessler increased the fine to "reflect seriousness of the offense." He said Petraeus committed a "grave and uncharacteristic error in judgment." Appearing calm and wearing a business suit, Petraeus made a brief statement before he was sentenced, apologizing "for the pain my actions have caused."
Petraeus attorney Jake Sussman said this was not a case about the public dissemination of classified information, but the wrongful removal of materials. But prosecutor James Melindres said, "This is a serious criminal offense. He was entrusted with the nation's most classified secrets. The defendant betrayed that trust". Melindres says Petraeus compounded that trust by "lying to the FBI."
In a brief statement after the hearing, Petraeus said this marks the end of a two-and-a-half year ordeal, and he just wants to move on. "I now look forward to moving on to the next phase of my life," he said, before walking to a waiting car and leaving. The agreement was filed in federal court in Charlotte, the city where Paula Broadwell, the general's biographer and former lover, lives with her husband and children.

Makes me wonder if former military officer Paula Broadwell was under contract with the CIA/DIA, or an agent for the CIA/DIA and PAID WELL.
Since the whole bunch is still in the same neighborhood and the paperwork is done “Pet” can get on with his life and they can all have a clusterflock reunion. And I never did hear whether Pet turned in his eight black notebooks, the ones he let the chick read, or whether he’s still packing them around, maybe cruising for new chicks who like to read gummint mumbo jumbo? His lack of judgment in letting anyone read his work logs made/makes me question every other single thing he’s ever done and whether anyone got killed for it? At a minimum he should never again show up on a public podium.

Don't forget when the white house revealed all the details involving killing Bin Laden to Hollywood, which was all classified. I simply don't believe Petraeus removed any classified data. He didn't have to because she worked there in CENTCOM with him and had a security clearance.
So, what you're saying, James Melindres, is that you don't initiate a prosecution against Hillary Clinton for her multiple betrayals of the nation's trust, David Petraeus should be able to take you out back and give you a few knuckle sandwiches, to remind you what a hypocritical lying little scumbag you are...
I think Petraeus was made the fall guy much like Oliver North was made the fall guy in his scandal.

Too bad dueling is illegal. I think Petraeus has got a good reason for one if Melindres doesn't prosecute Hillary Clinton.

Re Paula Broadwell. She give many years to this country in the military and she tried to protect this country. The fat middle eastern so called socialite compromised our military at CENTCOM.
I still don't understand how a Lebanese woman was able to drive in and out of CENTCOM and arrange social events for the top officers there so they could socialize with foreigners.
