The director of the White House Correspondents' Association makes more than the association pays out in scholarships.
The association, which runs the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner, paid its executive director more in 2013 than it gave out to aspiring journalists that year — continuing a pattern noted in a recent documentary on the WHCA.
The association represents White House reporters, awarding annual scholarships to students seeking careers in journalism. In addition it puts on the controversial annual dinner, during which the capital's ruling politicians and reporters are entertained by a comedian.
The gathering of Washington insiders, in the presence of the president, has come under increasing scrutiny and criticism in recent years, as it has grown into an event that attracts Hollywood stars and fuels its own sub-genre of media coverage.
Julia Whiston, the association's executive director, was compensated $133,150 in 2013, the latest year that tax returns for the nonprofit group have been made public. That year, only $86,000 worth of scholarships were awarded to students at the annual White House Correspondents' dinner.

To be fair, most secular charities pay only a small percentage to the recipients. Most of it goes into the pockets of those who run the organization.
More to the point, the executive director says “We are a group that fights for openness and transparency at the White House.” Ha. They are no more for openness and transparency than Obama is. Their whole aim is to keep the insiders in, and the outsiders out. And conservatives are not welcome.
Members of the liberal elites are consistent:
1) Don’t give to charity
2) Take big salaries when they work for non-profits
3) Send their children to exclusive private schools while denying vouchers and charter schools to the masses
4) Live in gated compound communities or in urban luxury towers with high security
5) Vacation in exclusive luxury resorts, preferably out of the USA
6) Love expensive cars - BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Bentley, Rolls
7) Fly on private jets whenever possible
8) Buy luxury brands
9) Enjoy dining out at expensive restaurants
10) Fundraise at expensive charity dinners and balls with paid celebrity entertainment that soaks up most of the money raised.
11) Constantly complain about the greed of wealthy Republicans

WASHINGTON — The White House Correspondents’ Association is pleased to announce that Saturday Night Live’s Cecily Strong will be the entertainer at our annual dinner on April 25, 2015.
“Her political humor is sly and edgy, and it comes with a Chicago accent. Cecily grew up in suburban Oak Park, Ill. and got her start in Chicago’s comedy scene with stints at iO and Second City,” said WHCA President Christi Parsons.
Journalists are perennial targets for the WHCA entertainer, but Cecily has an edge: Her father, Bill Strong, served as Associated Press bureau chief in the Illinois Statehouse. Strong will be the fourth woman to serve in this role.
Talk about waste of money...Getting a degree in Jounalism is worthless in today’s media climate. If you can establish a snappy blog, your future is much brighter.
